You're still not really talking about very many users and posts though. It’s isolated venting among people who have been posting together for 20 years. We vent about everything to each other - our jobs/coworkers, traumatic stuff in our lives, even fucking bowel movements lol - the way you’re framing it as though the NFL thread is the Bullying Thread is really silly. The main difference is actually that we don’t only stick to the topic at hand and only discuss football. Most of us couldn’t give a shit less about drama in another thread and only join in if we find the discussion interesting. Most of us who migrated here last night did have the discussion in good faith (myself, Donnie Ruth, phaynes etc). You’re talking about a couple users who got frustrated and went to their more comfy circle of the internet to vent so they wouldn’t continue to antagonize the discussion here. Which I really don’t think is a big deal. Some of us have discords or messenger/text group chats where we might even talk shit about other NFL thread users who get on our nerves at times… it feels like people are going out of their way to insecure project when you could just not open the NFL thread if you have a feeling you might not like what’s being said (which again is a poor representation of what we actually spend our time on in there and what the dynamic is like. Half of our discussion revolves around running jokes and bits we’ve been making for so long that we have a master list of like 100 of them lol, there’s way more of that than talking about any other user or thread.)
I had a super weird dream last night that Chorus got hacked and people were impersonating me and other users here, using our real names and saying things we didn't actually feel was true. Not sure what it means but probably I should spend less time on this website today
I don't care about what else happens in the thread, I didn't say it was the only thing that happened in the thread, from the perspective of someone who doesn't read the thread it's the thread where people complain about other threads and users and then drop into conversations red and mad and offended. You are missing the next thing that happened: a bunch of their friends came in here and threw insults for no reason He went there...after a bunch of people that mostly post in there came in here aggressive lol. It's not a secret but most people don't read it, and you know most people don't read it when you decide to post about them.
To be honest, I don’t think people being bitchy about other people behind their backs is inherently juvenile or bad. It’s tacky imo to do it “behind their back” in a place they can get to, instead of DMs or elsewhere, lol. But, it’s whatever, who cares. I’d be honored to know people made fun of my Madame Web love behind my back. The specific thing here is that someone posted about this conversation there, and then people there came here and chimed in, much of it abrasively and dismissively. That’s pretty annoying! Not everyone who came over posted annoyingly instead of actually participating, and I don’t know that the intent of whoever went there with this was “hey, let’s all go over and retaliate!” (vs just venting). But, the way it rolled out was annoying. Anyways. I kinda wish the actual conversation itself was still going instead of derailed. It was engaging at its best. Alas!
It was definitely just venting. This specific thread wasn’t even mentioned. I only figured out what thread they were referring to because I am also subscribed to this thread.
I do wanna say again for the record that the original poster just said "I'm annoyed and may need a break from this site" and then people did detective work to figure out where he was referencing and escalated from there, whether intentional or not. I don't wanna criticize anyone for just expressing that they're annoyed because he absolutely didn't make a call to arms for people to jump in here
i still feel like MAYBE two of us came in here “aggressive” and even that was tame and not that serious. The rest of us came in and genuinely gave our two cents without judgment. The only thing exacerbating the issue is people following us back into the NFL thread and seeing mild words like “dweebs” being posted… which, is that even an issue that occurs if we didn’t have NFL team avatars that gave away what thread some of us are from? I honestly don’t believe that other parts of this site haven’t called the NFL thread a bunch of bros or something like that lol ive seen it but i dont take it personally, I would just see that and be like “yeah I get why the film thread has a different dynamic and doesn’t vibe with us” Or whatever I just don’t get it lol to me it’s the same as if I were to open Discord right now and tell my best online friends “that entertainment forum discussion is full of weird energy”. That’s not your business how I vent to people in a separate social circle, it’s a very normal human response to social conflict, and I would be intentionally removing my criticism from where you interact at that point so that I’m not directly insulting anyone here. I get that the NFL thread is public but we’re not posting it like “I hope they come in here and read this and feel bad about themselves” lol, we’re trying to do the opposite

Yup this is the problem @Randall Mentzos (again not singling you out just tagging since it was in response to your questions/concerns) it's especially frequent there. I've seen people talk about users in other places like the Q&A thread before but it's usually extremely short lived and much more rare.

yeah. I get the distinction and I get that it has been more habitual in a thread that has longer running regulars who are more comfortable virtue signaling with each other than most of the site. I suppose my perspective is based on my personal experience - usually when that happens I just lurk and try to understand both sides of the discussion and only insert myself if I have something genuine to say, I don’t just come in here talking shit cause my NFL thread friend got annoyed by the discussion. So with my limited exposure to the times when it’s gotten really bad… in this particular instance where I did choose to participate in the discussion, I really felt like almost every other poster who was intrigued by the discussion enough to come post in here did so in a respectful and positive way. I think two users expressed dissent with what was perceived as “talking down” to enjoyers of casual books but the discussion that occurred in here after that was largely very level headed and fair. And that’s where I feel like the response has been more reactive based on past scenarios and snooping around the NFL thread just to find the couple posts talking shit, than what this specific discussion warranted
I mean what do you expect when a ton of non-regulars jump in all of a sudden at once saying the same thing? You expect that it started somewhere and you go back to look. I feel like that's a natural reaction and something I've done when the same has happened in a thread I've posted in. I think there is zero value in diminishing people's concerns and trying to say that they're being too reactionary is not helpful. I say that as another NFL Thread regular poster
Like phaynes, Dave, myself, tvck, Donnie all had positive responses to this discussion. The two posters who got really annoyed left and went back to the NFL thread and one of them even suspended their account. Dustin is being helpful mediating this as a mod, Elf is liking posts and showing empathy to those whose feelings were hurt, even spiffa came back like “yeah sorry I talked shit in another thread”… this genuinely was not that mean or contentious of a discussion and just because two-three people found one side of the argument offputting, that doesn’t really mean we’re antagonizing things right now.
