Late to this but I feel like The Other Guys didn’t make a dent when it first came out. I went to see it with low expectations because the previous couple Will Ferrell movies were just fine, and I loved it. A lot of the writing and gags reminded me of why I liked Hot Rod so much. Feels like it’s been getting a good reappraisal which is nice to see.
OG Jim Carrey run was insane too, I was more of a Carrey kid than a Sandler kid (no disrespect to the Sandman of course)
on the other hand, this asshole named Zac that was a year ahead of me in high school quoted it nonstop who is to say
Sandler’s career in its prime almost immediately has a big skip with “Bulletproof.” While “Batman Forever” isn’t great, that run between “Ace Ventura” and “Man on the Moon” is incredible and this is factoring the correct opinion that “The Cable Guy” is good.
you need to factor in that Jim basically semi retired after Burt Wonderstone and only seems interested in Sonic, but I Love You Phillip Morris is great
the TV series Kidding was amazing and easily his best recent work, but for movies specifically, I would argue Eternal Sunshine was the last haha
The Cable Guy is indeed good, and yeah the run he was on in the 90s-early 2000s was legendary I enjoyed Yes Man, tbh. I also thought Fun with Dick and Jane was, well, fun.
The “Sonic” movies are fun in a “Gotta throw on something for the nephews and this is inoffensive” kind of way. But yeah, outside of a few things, he made almost all unadulterated horse manure before he “retired.” “The Number 23” is one of the worst movies of the decade. He also should have got way more shit for the way he acted on the set of “Man on the Moon,” just judging by what was shown in that Netflix documentary.
he effectively is retired, but because Sonic is a franchise big enough that they don't want to recast, they are basically just paying him figures he can't turn down haha
It is senior skip day and I have a list I am working on so we are knocking out The Princess Diaries today. It's funny how many movies think that putting glasses on a beautiful woman and telling her to slouch makes her ugly.
One of my more fashion minded students noticed the insane eyebrows and of course it is like the first thing they try to fix.
