I know Ace Ventura doesn't hold up for very obvious reasons, but what about the sequel? Was it ever even good? I haven't seen it in years.
I was just thinking about early Jim Carrey because Just A Dash had Matty taking about the four best films ever made; Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Batman Forever. In retrospect, it's insane those all basically came out within a year
Yeah, the movie was a massive part of my childhood, but those trans jokes in Ace Ventura are uhhhh not a great look in hindsight. Haven't seen it in over a decade so God knows what else I'm forgetting from it
I might have to break my rule about waiting until shows are officially over because I don't want the Robinson journey to end after Detroiters. There is something so funny about the way they completely commit to the absurd to the point where you start to wonder if you are the one who was wrong the whole time. Little stuff like everyone calling him plate man at the barbecue is gold because there was a guy I used to work with who immediately volunteered to do plates and cups every time we were forced to do a potluck. It is the perfect expression of wanting to be involved but not really.
It’s a show I would love to see come back, but I also I don’t because I think that was lightning in a bottle that’s tough to replicate.
Like, I'm very hesitant to be optimistic about Malcom and Scrubs. But I would be 10000% confident in a Detroiters revival haha
Oh man I missed the comedy discussion Those two and Wedding Crashers are my top 3 from the 2000s...and honestly any one of them could compete for best ever for me IMO I too liked Black Sheep a lot...I don't know if I can say it's better than Tommy Boy or I liked it more than Tommy Boy, but I'm not sure if that's just the Tommy Boy propaganda/the fact that it gets brought up a lot more that's biasing me there lol. Child me also liked Beverly Hills Ninja lol. I haven't seen Almost Hereos in a long time but i remember liking it. Shaun of the Dead >>> Hot Fuzz I too thought THe Other Guys was overrated, never really got into it much. Funny but not up there like a lot of people praise it IMO. Old School is the OG of that run and good. I Love You, Man is good but has its limits. Same with Role Models.
For 2010s, the standouts for me have been Neighbors and The Night Before. I also liked Game Night. I grew up on 90s comedies and my older siblings and dad quoting them all the time. Dumb and Dumber and the two aforementioned Farley movies for sure. Then Ace Ventura and Liar Liar as well. There's Something About Mary too, even if I was a little young for that at the time lol. The Nutty Professor. I loved Problem Child when I was little too. The Sandler 90s movies of course. As I got older some of the ones I was too "young" for at the time like Lebowski, Kingpin, etc. Rush Hour was awesome and honestly would probably still make me laugh a lot today if I didn't know every second of the movie front to back from watching it so much back then.
