They had a guest on a while back that I was interested in, but I couldn't even get through the intro before I turned it off. Amazing how two Arrested Development cast members can be so insufferably unfunny in a different context.
People talking about awards shows dumb new categories, but The Emmys just recently announced a new award I kinda dig. The Legacy Award will now be given each year to a series "that has stood the test of time and had a lasting impact" Some people are saying it's the Emmys way of honoring shows that it previously snubbed while they aired, and many think The Wire is gonna be the first recipient.
Missed the romcom discussion, but yeah FSM, WHMS, Notting Hill, 10 Things are all great. One I never see mentioned is Down With Love, which is wonderful even if its final act goes to a kind of unnecessary place
Notting Hill is great. it's one of my dad's favorite movies, so i was well-versed with it from a young age. a few others from that time period i enjoy to that are less good, but have soft spots for.
I googled "best rom coms" and here are some that it listed that I didn't consider or think of a rom coms: 40 Year Old Virgin Jerry McGuire Silver Linings Playbook Palm Springs Groundhog Day Licorice Pizza Breakfast At Tiffany's
Me too If it wasn't straight to streaming or the shitty covid release I feel like that movie should have been bigger.
It really depends on how narrow a definition of romantic comedy you want to use. That's why I would call Step Brothers a romantic comedy.
i was gonna say i think it was originally with Neon so it could've had a wider release if COVID hadn't put a damper on things, but it turns out they had a joint distribution deal with Hulu they set up shortly after 2020 Sundance, so i'm guessing it never had a chance theatrically unless it went with another distributor (i know it was released on Prime in a few other countries, but idk if that did anything for theatrical).
It's Complicated is a good one. It's more high stakes than most though because Meryl has an extremely nice kitchen, but what if she messes it up with Steve Martin and doesn't get an even better kitchen.
So many bearded dragons for sale just outside LA at The Reptile Zoo. And he could have been there still! (Information I only know because I was there on Saturday randomly)
Speaking of Rose Byrne and romcoms - Juliet Naked was a pretty solid one with her and Ethan Hawks from a few years back.
would not personally describe Stepbrothers as a rom com but it's definitely my all-time favorite comedy
