I’ve gone a couple times because I work close to one but I really really do not like the idea of being waited on while trying to watch a movie
one description i’ve heard of alamo is that it’s made for people who wish going to the movies was more like a dave and busters
I stopped going to Alamo years ago because of all of the problems stated above plus having AMC A-List. I recently started considering going again because they were playing some of the Netflix movies, Twin Peaks and some 35mm screenings but I haven't been back yet and this isn't making me want to rush there
There was some kind of employee safety issue at the Alamo locations in Arizona when I lived there as well. They eventually closed and reopened as The Majestic, which is literally the same thing (realizing now this is why they already had mobile ordering - different company). It’s honestly just as bad from a viewer perspective though. People around you being waited on while you’re trying to watch a movie sucks ass.
Didn't Alamo have a lot of controversy around racism in their theaters? Never heard of them before seeing articles about that
I worked for one of the 3 in the phoenix. They were all owned by one guy. I have nothing good to say about that guy. I think Alamo is one of those things that started great and is now not. That said I have a great movie themed cocktail recipe book that I “borrowed” from them before I quit. edit to add all 3 didn’t come back from Covid but they re branded with the same owner and haven’t been back to any of them.
hmm, would be interested in "borrowing" this cocktail book if you have a way of sharing (if not, no worries, lol)
Alamo used to be my closest theater so I started going out of convenience. I appreciated the no tolerance for being an ass during the film. They also usually brought in smaller and foreign films too. I have mixed feelings about the food. On the one hand, sometimes I do want a drink when I watch a movie and it’s also nice to have someone come refill my popcorn. On the other hand there were enough times when I ordered some other food and they forgot to bring it to me that I stopped ordering anything other than popcorn. I ended up just wondering where my food was instead of focusing on the movie. Their season pass is also annoying because they still charge a $2 convenience fee for every ticket. So it’s $20/month plus $2 for every ticket. If you just go to discount Tuesday 4 times it’s the same price. The union busting stuff sucks, but I don’t think that’s exclusively and Alamo problem. I’m now nowhere near an Alamo and I find I prefer it. My closest is a smaller, older theater downtown and I prefer the atmosphere that brings. TLDR: Alamo can be fun on occasion, but other cinemas are better.
Only been to Alamo once and that was in Laredo last year when I was there for work. Saw the Revenge of The Sith rerelease. It was a solid experience
Lmao a truly bad experience for film geeks but as a kid it ruled. I remember seeing The Simpsons Movie and LOTR Return of the King there.
