Life came out that same year too. Lawrence has a hell of a 4 movie run of comedy movies there with Life, Blue Streak, Big Mommas House, and Black Knight, even though only 2 of them made money and the worst one was the biggest box office success imo
Warner Bros and Mattel picks up Wicked's Jon Chu to direct their live action Hot Wheels movie. JJ Abrams' Bad Robot producing.
Went to a Big Movie Chain for the first time in a long time yesterday and was floored by the 30+ mins of trailers and ads. It was something like: - 6-7 movie trailers - Coke ad - AMC ad - Allstate ad - ANOTHER movie trailer heinous experience
You see “Rebirth” too? Mine was that plus the ad for the Dolby Theater I was currently in letting me know that it was indeed a Dolby Theater and that Dolby Theaters are good. I also think that because “The Odyssey” trailer was meant for only theaters, they had to tack it on last to keep people waiting. Or maybe not. I have no idea. But 35 minutes of trailers is ridiculous. It’s why I like to go to my indie theater that has like 10 minutes of trailers. But they don’t have Dolby or IMAX.
It’s extra annoying because I go to the theater usually once a week so I see the same trailers over and over. And then the Cinemark rewards ad, the coke ad and then the Cinemark make sure you’re watching movies on the big screen ad.
anyone know how the ad/trailer roll with Marcus Theaters runs? i've never been to one, but there's one in the town i'm moving to
That trailer with Sam Rockwell and a cat and a backpack played so many times during that season that it really made me rethink going to a theater at all. I would have gone to see Mission Impossible and 28 Years Later and Jurassic Park back then.
i like seeing horror trailers before horror movies (hence why i often post this list of trailers in the horror thread) but as you can see, these are all trailers for sequels, not to mention i've already seen these trailers. every now and then we get a new, second trailer for a movie we already saw a trailer for, alongside the other trailers we've already seen. maybe i just go too often that i don't usually get trailers for movies i haven't seen trailers for, but that's why i usually try to go on time, i like seeing trailers on the big screen rather than seeing trailers as, for example, a tiktok ad on my phone. i've said trailer too many times
The best chance you have to avoid the same trailers is usually at indie movies playing at multiplexes. But then it opens up a new fun game: “Will the movie this trailer is advertising actually play anywhere near me?”
I’ve had it at the last 2-3 movies I’ve seen, but it’s like a 30-second spot. I would be fine if more movies did that.
Oh you’re in for a “treat”. The owner of Marcus Theaters records a new “Thank you for choosing Marcus Theaters” skit like twice a year, and it’s always the last thing that plays before the movie starts, if I remember right. It’s been a while since I went to a Marcus.
I definitely was prepared for the amount of ads and trailers before Rebirth because how bad they were for 28 YL. However I swear until I saw 28 I don’t remember them being this bad and drawn out. The ads are especially cringe
