My brother briefly put on the sequel to Christmas Story that they apparently made a few years ago? But my niece made them put the original back on. Also, shoutout to my 15-yr-old nephew who wants to see Marty Supreme. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s allowed to. Still trying to convince him to be a KPop Demon Hunters fan.
My entertainment new years resolution for 2026 is to find finally watch The Shawshank Redemption. I am a millennial who grew up in the 90's when that movie was all over Blockbuster and cable. I have no excuses for that to still be a blindspot for me.
a handful of years ago, my dad and i tried remote watching AFI's 100 greatest films of all time from 100 to 1, and we maybe got a little over ⅒ of the way through the list, so we were close to watching it (i think it's in the 70-ish range). just fell behind
I have seen The Green Mile and The Mist though. Wild that that is the only one of Durabont's King adaptation trilogy I haven't seen.
My goal is to get through a chunk of my backlog of physical media. I need to catalog it all and then go through unwatched films.
this is a good reminder for me to explore alternative storage options for some of the stuff on my bookshelf. we've been buying more physical media and have run out of room for movies & TV with the three rows we've allocated for discs on one of our bookshelves, so now we probably have to find a different way to store our CD collection.
Best Christmas Day box office post-covid. Lots of good movies. Going to try to see Marty Supreme this weekend Box Office: Christmas Best Post Covid, Led By 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' $24M
if you're interested (or anyone for that matter), i still have a free ticket voucher from A24 i'm not gonna use
no worries! it's up for grabs if anyone wants it! i'm just not gonna get a chance to get to the theaters this weekend
I feel like when talk to most people with "normie" tastes their favorite 90's movies are usually either Shawshank or Forrest Gump.
Shawshank Redemption is much better than Forrest Gump. Gump is actively harmful; a right-wing fantasy about contemporary history.
Oh yeah I've never actually seen that either. I generally like the King adaptations I see (as someone who's never read his work), I've managed to avoid the bad ones, but somehow never got to Shawshank or Stand By Me.
