No film should ever "trend" solely because the person who wrote it murdered the person who directed it.

Watching Home Alone for the first time in forever. Damn no filmmaker loved American suburbia like John Hughes.

My old manager insists that Home Alone 2 is better. He was trolling me about it today.

I enjoyed Home Alone 2 but in no way is it better.

 

I think this is the first time I've heard people say they prefer the original, but both are good

 

That cannot be true. I don’t know a single person in real life that prefers the second one.

 

I don't know that I've had the conversation with anyone else IRL lol but my ex and I always preferred watching the second one every year

 

That being said the Home Alone movies were never my favorites and I only came around to them in adulthood. Was more of a The Santa Clause kid

 

The second one is ass, outside of Marv getting shocked and turning into a skeleton.

This Home Alone talk reminded me of the three minutes John Candy shows up in the first one and now I think I'm just gonna put on Uncle Buck

...or The Night Before since that's more of a Christmas comedy

Kid me loved all the New York shots in Home Alone 2. It made NYC seem like magical place.

 

Yeah Home Alone wasn't a big one for me. My go to Christmas movies as a kid were Muppets Christmas Carol, Scrooged, and Christmas Vacation.

 

I have ultimately landed on watching Uncle Buck in bed

 

My ex was the one who introduced me to Scrooged a few years ago and I LOVED it. Idk why my family never watched it! It's so good! Christmas Vacation is also a lot of fun. And A Christmas Story was always playing on a loop at my granparents house.

hadn't seen it in years, but it came on the TV earlier today and i forgot how great it was. completely forgot Amy Madigan was in it too, which was nice to see after getting some love for Weapons this year

 

Both Home Alone’s are top notch. 1 is a classic but 2 is probably more fun to watch. The gags/traps in it are more fun/painful. My son says he likes 2 more than 1 as well lol

they’re up there with my top Christmas movies that I need to watch every year. Those two, Christmas vacation, and A Christmas Story are musts for me. I try to watch Elf and The Night Before at least once too. Will watch a ton of others but those are the priorities for me
