Saddest thing I've seen on this site was Tetra trying to post his NFL opinions in the madden thread while the NFL thread gets 20 pages a day
Well, I was right. Modern tight ends are essentially what your split end receiver was 15-20 years ago and they are going to be better across the middle than your fifth or even fourth receiver. Modern defenses are so afraid of the Hail Mary in that situation that the middle is going to be a soft zone at worst so unless you are really crunched for time you should take advantage of that. The conversation was about Varsity Blues, though, and at the high school level you are probably seeing more man coverage and maybe even a 5-2 defense so you have to get creative since your quarterback probably cannot throw that far and James Van Der Beek was technically the backup so his arm might even be weaker than normal for an elite Texas high school team.
I don't find much interest in talking about sports. In film there are things to debate and critique. In sports, what are you going to talk about? How you wish your team had scored more than the other team? I suppose you can criticize playcalling but most of that is just getting mad when a gamble doesn't pay off. I am a Dolphins fan, to answer your earlier question, and people were mad when they went for it late in the 4th quarter and didn't get it, sending the game to overtime and a possible loss, but even a basic understanding of analytics said to go for it in that situation. It is similar to the reason I don't go into the politics forum. How many times can you say Trump bad, socialism good?
Ok but sometimes the posts are about food opinions (your specialty!) or David87 being a horny centrist. People also really like showing that they know baseball players’ names.
It’s a very madden football opinion. Teams are really not afraid of the Hail Mary and tight ends have been great going over the middle since the 15-20 years ago era he was talking about, I also don’t think that replaces a split end receiver, more so just is “another option” in different packages to enable you to get bigger guys on the field and still call drive / flood / levels concepts in the passing game. It’s not all split end receivers who specialize in this either, that’s really specific archetypes of them that go over the middle a lot (AJ Brown, Jakobi Meyers etc)
To give you an idea of how little music I listen to, Oasis made number 3 even though the only song I listened to was Don't Look Back in Anger over and over again. I am too cheap to go to concerts. I am lifting two days in a row and then off the third day. It is the third worst part of my day after taking my pills and when the conservative teacher comes in my room to bother me.
I would say that arguing about play calling isn’t just a which gamble will pay off thing, if you really know the game and watch the plays and the way defenses or offenses are scheming (or if you really nerd out and watch the All-22 view every week after the game), you can go beyond just trying to guess what would be a better play call and get more into “this play would better attack this defense here because ____” And we used to actually discuss policy in the politics thread but it’s way more politics these days and any policy that isn’t complete govt takeover gets shot down so yeah the discussions have died down on that lol. Now we talk about food and baseball players and horny centrism
