Pretty sure I’ve read about that being the case again as recently as this summer

Disney wouldn't get that much viable IP for adaptations out of that deal anyway. Most of the huge EA IP are licensed sports games.

The two original EA IP that lend themselves most to adaptation, Dragon Age and Mass Effect already had have their film/tv rights gobbled up. The Sims, Dead Space, Titanfall, and Command & Conquer would be all they had left. Unless they wanted to do Battlefield or Medal Of Honor movie, or a Rock Band tv series.

 

Based on what I said to my friend when we talked about it, it seems like Iger was just being urged to push more into gaming. I don’t think it was necessarily for video game adaptations.

Disney should just acquire Square Enix so they can make a Kingdom Hearts movie and confuse the shit out of even more people

 

Don’t know if the IP was included in the a Lucas Film deal, but if not an easy one would be Star Wars Jedi, especially since some of their other SW projects seemed to be in limbo or dead in the water. Could easily see them try to make a Cal Kestis story in live action since both games have been pretty successful.

 

If video game movies are the next plague, I will always prefer the weird and incoherent bad of stuff like the Street Fighter movie or Mortal Kombat Annihilation over the corporate-approved safe bad of the new crop like the Mario movie.

 

There’s been rumors of Cal popping up in live action for basically every tv show so far. I think it’s only a matter of time. Lol

 

We're gonna get an Avengers: Endgame style Super Smash Bros movie in 10 years to culminate all this aren't me?

 

I’m going to be so bummed when it’s inevitably revealed that Jordan Vogt-Roberts and Oscar Isaac have dropped out of the MGS movie

 

In this new era I think it is safe to say that Sony/Columbia is going to dominate.

Nintendo already is allied with NBC/Universal. Microsoft seems to be more playing the field and shopping their IP out everywhere., Halo with Paramount, Minecraft with WBD, Fallout with Amazon/MGM, GoW and Grounded with Netflix, ect.

 

How about a video game movie but it's based on Madden or 2k and there's nothing video game-y about it, it's just a sports movie

Sony just tried the "adaptation of a sports video game franchise" thing with Grand Turismo. Where it was like The Last Starfighter but with racecars. I wouldn't say it bombed, but nobody really talked about it.

 

This is so fucking cool

 

Except Gran Turismo isn't played using real life race car drivers as playable characters. You're not being creative about how studios can simply use the likenesses of people who are already famous

I would say Simlish would be a deal breaker but that's basically the Minions lol

 

What would a Sims movie even be? It's a life simulator. Then again, they've made movies on rides and board games.

 

My pitch for a Sims adaptation would be a meta-sitcom series that is like a typical family sitcom, but where all the characters are aware they're in a simulated video game world and all their actions are controlled by an unseen player

 

I could see the angle where the characters mimic the emotions of the person playing, but I think Lego Movie and Barbie already kind of did that.

 

I’d be interested in the psychological horror sequence where the Sim is in the middle of swimming and the pool ladders disappear.

What was the movie recently where they put the pool cover on while the person was under water? I still haven’t recovered from that just being in the trailer

 

Speaking of Disney getting into the video game adaptation trend by just adapting their Star Wars game library into live action. Rogue Squadron is dead right? Shadows of The Empire or KOTR could be dope.
