  1. My wife and I put on Christmas Twister because with a title like that, it’s obviously going to be incredible. Haha.

The opening scene happened and then it goes to the title card and… they spelled Christmas wrong!?

    You had one job…

Crazy how MTV went from music TV for teens, to trash exploitive reality shows, to a quasi-prestige production house that makes mostly westerns for dudes in their mid-40's.

MTV is pretty much Paramount's equivalent to FX now.

I am talking about MTV produces most of the original dramas on Paramount+ and a bunch of the stuff on Showtime now. Yellowstone kind of changed everything for them. MTV the basic cable channel is just kind of a leftover of a different era, I think they've moved past that. MTV is predominantly a production house for all of Paramount's platforms now.

Most definitely. It’s sad to see what a husk Viacom has turned it into. At least MTV Classic is still around and just plays videos.

tbh I never really got the "MTV doesn't play music videos anymore!" thing. That was sealed and became obsolete once YouTube became a thing.

The main thing that fueled MTV for decades was being the broadcast hub for youth culture. They have lost that to the internet forever. Right now TikTok is what MTV used to be in the 80's and 90's. I don't blame them for just giving up and moving onto be a general entertainment production house.

Maybe the complaints made sense and were valid then. It makes absolutely 0 sense to beat that "MTV doesn't even play music anymore!" Horse in 2023.

I remember when MTV2 came out and it was going to be just music. That lasted about six months.

I know I sound like a super old man, but it goes beyond “Just play videos!” MTV had a lot of great music-based shows that gave context to current songs and artists. It also had well-produced and researched biographical shows.

Some of it is a sign of the times - no music journalism gets the access they got in the 90s and some of it is just Paramount Global doesn’t care.

I mean they still so some music based documentary stuff mainly for Paramount+, mainly targeted at older demos though. They just produced a doc about the Milli Vanilli scandal.

Also this is pedantic,.but you guys keep saying "Viacom". Viacom doesn't exist anymore. They have been Paramount Global ever since they re-merged with CBS.

One of the more weird things they did on that reshuffle that explains MTV's current shift, was they put nearly all of their general entertainment basic cable bands under the MTV Entertainment Group umbrella. For example Comedy Central, TV Land, Smithsonian Channel, Paramount Network, ect are all under MTV now and MTV Productions makes content for all of them. Which goes back to my original point of MTV is a no longer a music/youth brand, it's now a broad general entertainment production house for Paramount.

I decided to skip the whole second half of the final season of Billions and go straight to the series finale. Lmao what a cornball sitcom ass ending for show where literally all of these characters deserve to be in prison.

If we end up at the point where there's just gonna be AI actors in all the shit I'm watching, I'm done. I barely have enough time for TV shows and movies in my life these days as it is, and with what little time I do have, I'd rather go back and watch things I've missed from the past with actual actors in it, not AI garbage. No thanks. I just won't consume any of it. Gross and abhorrent behavior from the studios and streamers here.

That's the one thing I really hate as my job as a software developer. Creating automated solutions to make people's jobs easier but in reality that just creates an excuse to cut people's jobs in the call center :-/
