Personal pet peeve of mine is how so many cares so much about the “fresh” percentage rather than the average score. A film where all the reviews are like 3-3.5/5 would be 100% “fresh.” A completely useless statistic that I imagine RT keeps around because they know it’s misleading

 

Letterboxd score > Rotten Tomatoes score

 

Ehhh people will leave Letterboxd reviews on movies that aren’t even out yet

 

Letterboxd is just a bunch of assholes who think they're funny and think they are the gold standard for taste

 

That’s actually a really good point. Half the reviews are “my cat peed on my carpet while I ate a carrot.” I skim right through all those annoying “reviews.”

but I mainly use Letterboxd to find obscure 80s horror movies, so I’m mostly just looking for the reviews that say “this was disgusting and actually not shitty.”

 

Similar to what I said about local critics, my Letterboxd usage is primarily for personal logging and following a handful of friends/critics whose tastes I know fairly well. I almost never look at the average score or random reviews for any movie.

 

I always check Letterboxd after I see a movie but it is to see the people I follow. I never look at the general scores.

 

Same and use it to log what I’m watching. I don’t care about the general user base

 

Yeah there's definitely a lot of good if you know where to look, but jeeze.... So many users are just unbearable

 

Yeah, I hear people complain about the rubes and assholes on Letterboxd, but I only care about my small amount of followers and don’t use it like a social media site (more so just a personal diary) — that’s insane. I’ll check some user reviews but you can usually tell what’s worth it.

 

Anybody else getting bombarded with YouTube ads for that "making of Jaws" play on Broadway starring Robert Shaw's son?

 

All ratings that can be influenced by people are unreliable. Solution: ai reviews and rankings

 

I look at it similarly to Twitter. You are the one who chooses what voices get through. If you are having a bad experience stop following those people.

 

I check RT's TV page from time to time when I am having trouble finding A show to watch, not really because I care about the score, but because it just tells me what shows are currently recent/popular on streaming that I might want to check out.

 

Honestly, this site is where I get a lot of my movie recommendations.

 

I like Metacritic because they’re a little more choosy with their critics. Letterboxd is good if you get the right people. I truly hate users that just make unfunny jokes without any insight.

It’s weird because Scorsese has never actually called out the Russo brothers, he’s really just criticized the studio system that’s creating homogenized products, not the directors. I get why they might take offense to that but he’s never been like “oh the Russo’s suck”. What a loser.

 

I feel like I’m the only one who isn’t interpreting that tiktok to be as hostile towards Scorsese as the world seems to be taking it. He’s just making a corny joke, and arguably poking fun at himself for having financial success without critical acclaim
