The funny thing is that the giant blockbusters are the films least likely to be affected by reviews. They just looked more bland and uninteresting compared to other years.

If reviews truly mattered in terms of box office performance then those that got a good RT score would always do well while those that got a bad RT score would always do badly which just isn't the case. Only have to look at the worldwide Top 20 films for this year which features several rotten rated films.

Reviews do have an impact on certain types of films, usually dramas and independent films. A bunch of teenagers debating between seeing It and the new Annabelle movie are not checking what a bunch of middle-aged writers had to say.

I have yet to see any evidence to suggest reviews have a noticeable impact on the box office performance of a film but I will gladly be proven wrong. Just think people moaning about sites like RT should try and make better films instead of blaming a single site for the failure of their film.

Spike Jonze is the only director I know who doesn't have a single film that is less than a 10/10

It is all such a waste of time in order to get attention.

    Excited for louis movie....

I almost feel like rotten tomatoes wrote that article about it effecting box offices. They'd love to know they have that power.

For me...ratings and reviews have completely effected what I see and don't see in the theaters (depending on the genre; horror and comedy are usually exempt)

One of the worst subgenres recently is the faux-edgy action film like Kick-Ass. Kingsman is another one.
