I am watching Better Off Dead for the first time. This is great! I loved One Crazy Summer as a kid, somehow missed this!

It's a shame that big fuckin creep Dan Schneider is in this movie because he's really funny in it

 

I haven't seen it since I was a literal child so idk how it holds up. I can probably guess that it is nowhere as good as this. He also made How I Got Into College, which a lot of people on Letterboxd seem to love

 

Never saw How I Got Into College either but I remember always seeing it at the video store. May add it to the list too.

Spirited Away was good. Idk if I “get it”, but I enjoyed it. Think Totoro really enchanted me more, though

 

It’s Japanese Alice In Wonderland with an environmental+coming of age bent. And just the whole craziness of the world and all the bizarre little creatures running around

Princess Mononoke is my favorite but it’s much darker and more violent than his other stuff. The protagonist has a cursed overpowered arm and when he shoots people with arrows their heads fly off lol

 

Just started Body Double. From the opening cheesy credits, I’m in

 

Strongly suggest double featuring it with Dressed to Kill.

 

I watched that a few months back. Not my favorite of his but I liked it, this is more up my alley off the jump

 

For some reason Ponyo has always stuck with me most, but part of that is the unhinged English dub.

 

The English dub of Howl’s Moving Castle has Christian Bale voicing Howl, and when Howl turns into a monster it’s clearly Bale doing an early version of his Batman voice

 

I did not love Body Double. I think that’s the essential DePalma except the early stuff and Carlito’s Way. Gonna watch the doc now. I didn’t realize he was from Philly!
