i’m sure it’s a finely made film, i just don’t like baseball and couldn't care less about a story of its finances/management.

I don't watch sports and don't like baseball, it's a movie about a fascinating thing that happened in history

 

Yeah, I can’t stand baseball and I loved it immediately.

 

I’d suggest not watching that video if you’re gonna check the movie out though. It’s riddled with spoilers.

i won't deny that's a valid critique (especially when publications do it in the interest of clicks instead of offering a real discussion point) but there's still those who do it not only out of genuine enjoyment but also to maybe even examine why they prefer A over Z

Ranked lists can be bad or w/e but are they definitely not the cause of all those problems lol

 

Not the cause, no, but now many times do you see people freak out on twitter if a movie they like isn't included on a list, or mock someone for certain lists, etc? He clarifies that he's not so much talking about people making personal lists for themselves, but moreso publications creating a consensus. "Fascist energy" is strong wording but whenever an "official" value is assigned to art, whether from a publication or even something like the Oscars, people get in tizzies about whether it's right or wrong all the time.

 

trank should be less concerned with ranked lists and more concerned with making watchable films

 

A top ten list or something similar from an individual is just an expression of taste. They have no weight beyond telling you what that person thinks is quality.

 

I think there are a lot of problems with internet movie discourse and while I don't feel as strongly as Trank does about the ranked lists of certain publications, I don't think he's completely off base.

 

All I know, related to the ranking chat, is I loved when Scott Aukerman did this, because people got stupidly mad.

Always down for a ranking.

 

My local theater announced they are reopening "soon". I asked them what they plan on showing, and they said they were working on it. It will be an interesting experiment at least.

 

The drive-in closest to me is currently doing a double showing of Sonic/Jumanji: The Next Level and then I Still Believe/Midway
