1: I agree and we should hope for kids movies to be worthwhile. that was my big complaint with the little mermaid. I just thought it stunk. but at the same time, I don't think we should really expect the best by default, more that we should be surprised and glad when something IS quite good. I know tons of people work on these films and I believe they want to create something worthwhile, but like, it's designed to sell toys and drive Disney plus subscriptions and theme parks visits etc and so I feel it's compromised by the corporate interests from the get go

2: I really strongly disagree. this is personal preference/feeling but any algorithmic short form video stuff is less reliable IMO. tiktok especially has such an aggressive algorithm (so I hear, I have personally never used the app) and so it's going to push what's getting the most traction out front. tiktok probably also skews younger and so more people would I assume have similar feelings as you and takes like that would gain traction and people who haven't even seen the movie would make forum posts about it.

I'm not saying, at all, that you have to provide a reason, at all, to not see something, but I personally think it's silly to do so based on tiktok videos.

I know based on your posts that inclusivity and representation is quite important to you.

I would like to apologize to you for coming on so strong, it probably felt like an attack but that really was not my intention. I was literally standing in my yard with my dogs, reading your post, then going down to type a comment as I kept reading.

 

There are thoughtful movie reviewers on TikTok, I see no reason to discard the entire medium

 

yeah, the algorithm can definitely direct you to some bad faith takes, but there are people on there with academic backgrounds in film who give very earnest, well-informed criticisms (FWIW, i don't use TikTok anymore, and the few voices i actually cared about branched out to other platforms during the initial ban, so longform platforms like YouTube are much better outlets for their thoughts)
