I’ve got an app idea and don’t know where else to put this:

Basically it combines the Letterboxd watchlist function with yelp with the option to tailor it to just people you’ve added/follow/whatever, but for anything. Not about logging so much as making lists of stuff to check out and recommending stuff to your friends.

For instance, my friend keeps telling me about colognes. I follow a few perfume accounts on twitter too. Right now, i’m either bookmarking twitter threads, screenshotting texts, or adding to a notes app.
My idea is: I’d go into this app, tag colognes and add them. Maybe it links up with yelp or google or some other popular aggregate and provides a basic description/average rating/where to buy (idk). If I don’t want to use the app that way, I can toggle it so that I just see reviews of the people I follow. If my friend is also on the app, and he logs the colognes he has and rates them, I can just see his reviews. If the perfume influencer joins the app, all their recs are in one space instead of mixed in my twitter bookmarks.

we’re having another kid. If my wife and I are looking for stroller recs and our friends are also on the app, they might log the strollers they have and rate/review so that we can pick from people we know, rather than random idiots/spam bots on other sites. Also saves the hassle of being like “anyone have any stroller recs?” On facebook

You use the app however you want to/for whatever new hobby you want to get involved in. You don’t see spam reviews because you only see reviews from people you follow. If no one you follow has logged the thing you’re looking at, you can also just look at whatever aggregate review you’d find on google/yelp.


Is this dumb? Does this exist already?

Is that not kinda something you can do on Amazon with wishlists and whatnot? I could be misunderstanding

You can view other peoples wishlists and reviews, but I don’t think you can aggregate them into a feed so I think you’ve got something there

 

This all started because the Jokermen pod have their rootbeer report and I wish I kept a running list of the ones they liked. Then I went down a root beer reddit rabbit hole and wish I could just catalog all the root beer I want to try on a user friendly, letterboxd esque app.

I feel like my notes app is where things go to die. I even started just texting the grocery list to my wife before i run to the store

 

I follow people on LB for specific genres. If they log something they like in the genre I’m following them for, it goes on my watch list.

If I’m following my friend who is a coffee snob and they log a new coffee they buy, it comes up on my feed and I might check it out/add it to my “to try” list for coffee.

 

I think its a good app idea. I would use it for the gear influences instead of watching 10 youtubes on best "___ in 2025" I could see who recommends what
