i think the guy who had the toms before me had a splash cymbal on his at one point, but idk why since we just primarily played showtunes (marching band was a joke at my school, but we all had to do it as a requirement for advanced concert band, so we never had a commissioned show like other drumlines)

yeah we did the football games on Friday and then had competitions every Saturday, like band of america or whatever. Learning/practicing that shit succcccked. The entire show was like 12-15 minutes. But we did Tommy by The Who one year and The Police one year which was cool.

i had a guitar teacher discourage me from using the capo. it’s been pretty good, forced me to master barre chords and learn jazz chords

good lineup. i can't remember much of what we played, but i believe my freshman year we did Respect, Steely Dan's Peg, and Walking on Sunshine. i remember my sophomore year we did Poker Face, and from there on our everything else is a blur.

concert band was a great time though. practiced our ass off for lots of competitions, and the pieces were excellent.

It depends on what you want to be. I always saw myself as more of a rock rhythm player so the limitations of the capo never bothered me.

yeah nothing wrong with a capo at all. hard to get a capo 6 c-f-am-g shape progression using barre chords. you can do it, but much easier to wail fast with the capo. it’s just become a habit for me at this point.

Also, I will never master the barre for a major chord on the A string.

I probably wouldn’t have made some of the stupid decisions I made my senior year but oh well! That’s life babbby.

selectively muting strings is still a growth point for me. and i don’t know many songs. i normally just play the same songs i’ve had stuck in my head trying to get out for the last ten years

Muting strings was another thing I was really dumb on. When I would learn a lot of Ramones/Green Day songs in high school I was never precise enough to miss the low E for A string power chords so I ended up transposing them to the E string and going all around the neck until just a few years ago someone said hey just press your finger against it a little and no one will know.

The most useful parts is using it to build the mode/scales out of the chord shapes

the house of blues shape on the thinnest three strings was a major revelation for me over the last year or so

a lot of things. guitar, bass, keys, saxophone, some horns. could never really get drums but most other rock music things I can hack.

if you learn how to transpose the capo is kind of unnecessary but it can also be used in harmonically fun ways

we've got an Alesis Strike Pro at the moment. great electric kit but the cymbals are dying and it's not being manufactured anymore, so it might be more cost-effective to buy a whole new one when we move

I did bass my freshman year, one year of pit, and then two years of snare. Would’ve loved to do quints but I’m too small and there was no way I’d ever be able to carry them

E-kits have come such a long way. The Roland DW kit that looks like acoustic drums is pretty dope

I wanted to do pit my sophomore year so I didn’t have to march and they didn’t let me
