It sucks. Seems like nothing stays in theaters for more than like 2-3 weeks max anymore.

 

also quit bringing it up lol. people are allowed to not like each other. quit being weirdos about it.

 

I blinked and completely missed seeing Presence in theaters.

It also seems like they aren't even using all the theaters. Attendance so bad they'd rather have an empty closed down theater.

 

Mufasa is only available in theaters and still raking in money.

Music and film both have outsider art. What is the closest that tv gets?

 

technically a web series would probably be the answer but I don’t know web series like that. Adult Swim? The Birthday Boys.

It doesn't exist, outside of maybe some cable access stuff nobody has ever seen

Idk if I’d call them “outsider art”. Absurdist, sure.
The best I can come up with for a show on an actual channel is Wonder Showzen

 

Absurdism, sure. But if you think of something like Daniel Johnston or Wesley Willis, I don’t know if there is an equivalent for TV

 

Most outsider art that I can think of is self-distributed, so you'll never see it on 'real' tv because tv is entirely intermediated by distributors who are profit-motivated. So you'd have to go to public access or, more likely, YouTube or other internet channels where distribution is less restricted.

 

TV has such a high threshold of success to even keep going. Arrested Development was averaging 6 million viewers an episode and that wasn't enough so they started reducing episode orders and moving around the schedule. If 6 million people went and saw a movie that would be pretty great for most small and mid budget films.

You can't really make tv in your bedroom and make tapes of it so that makes sense
