Not to have some nerd ass take about it but there’s kind of a probability element to it. The longer running tv show is gonna have more ebb and flow to it re: quality than a 1.5-2.5 movie will, it’s just something you have to accept going into it. Suppose you can probably say the same thing about a series of movies.

  2. tell that to Wait Until Dark, This is Spinal Tap, The Sandlot, Rear Window, Before Sunrise, and The Muppet Christmas Carol.

I mean future things. If they remake any of them, they will probably be bad

That’s been one of my points from the beginning. You are immediately conceding fluctuation of quality when you watch a show. You don’t need to do that in other art forms.

I mean plenty of movies, records, etc, great ones even, have lulls in them, but I don’t need to resurrect a convo from earlier this morning so I’ll just leave it at that

Sure, but if the movie is good the lull is a few minutes. The lulls in even the best TV shows take up more time than multiple episodes.

The best movies are close to perfect. The best shows have a lot of flaws.

How is this still going on when the answer is that people can enjoy something without something else being worse

and part of what endears movies to people is seeing something shot to be seen in a big dark theater. TV’s primary concern was getting you to keep watching so they could sell the ad time, so it worked to structure it around keeping charismatic characters in repetitive arcs where nothing changed too much. Around the 80s but especially in the 90s, that changed, and tv engaged in the formal experimentation and thematic complexity that cinema had been innovating in decades before, it was starting to be made more cinematically. The craft changed but the essence didn’t really, it’s still TV, while even as episodes that aired on TV, Scenes From a Marriage feels like a movie in short films, like a novel in short stories. That’s where I’m coming from, at least. There’s overlap, but fuzzy distinctions, and cinema is innovating and crafting the language for television’s revolutions to follow in singular works while television is still primarily concerned with immediate and returning viewership.

Why does any conversation on the site devolve into this? We’re not saying you can’t enjoy TV. We’re saying TV is inherently flawed in ways other art forms are not. You can enjoy whatever you want

Literally every time. People are having a respectful conversation. Why is that bad? Is the whole forum supposed to be announcing an actor joined a movie or that another trailer is out?

I was trying to figure out who I had blocked till I saw this post, and immediately knew i had that user blocked. I clearly didn't like what they had to say in the past, and my experience in this thread (and i'm assuming the political one where blocking is most likely) is much better due to having that person tuned out. :peace:B-)

I have only been following along as most of this happened while I was asleep and I’m now caught up, but it seems pretty chill.

Posting about politics seems so boring. Maybe it can be used to inform people but overall the issues are too important for there to be any sort of friendly debate. We can be friends if you like superhero movies but we can't be friends if you like ethnic cleansing.

I just think you guys aren’t really saying anything at this point and it’s going in circles, that’s my only complaint. I realize I can just tune out, so it’s on me
