many of the arguments levied in here about television could also be applied to novels and music

countless books where you have to sift through entire chapters to get to something worthwhile. bands that have long discographies with entire albums that could be skipped. the time investment into television isn’t that much longer if it’s longer at all than going through a series of books with characters continuing over from book to book

Music and literature obviously have the widest gap in quality due to the fact that anyone can write/record and self publish. Seeking out the psychos in those mediums is not as fun as finding nutjobs who went out and made a movie, though.

I was just responding to a list, from someone you have blocked, but no I don’t think they count as art.

Pat can’t see my posts but:
There are few great works of literature that require serialization/continuity between books, outside of something where the release was initially serialized in a magazine or something. Similarly, you don’t need to wade through bad albums to appreciate the good ones. You don’t even need to wade through bad tracks to find good ones. That’s why music is 1.

I could see the argument that a "perfect" game could rival the best TV show. I don't think that games as a narrative form of art or whatever are at that level, but like Tetris is fun as shit and perfect. Is it better than the Sopranos?

Games are hindered by the audience that plays them. While they are definitely getting more diverse, it is still more young male skewed than other artforms and it limits how stories can be told.

A lot of the games cited as great stories (Red Dead 2, Last of Us 1/2, God of War 2018, Mass Effect) deliver most of their stories in cutscenes that are shot and portrayed like films.

We’re talking about shows, though. It’s one thing if the repetition serves a purpose. Tetra is trying to say it doesn’t in this case

No. But people in fiction aren't always representative of people in life. That's why we cut out all the time sleeping and going to the bathroom.
