I n gotto get this out before I pass out t m. Im comparing my experience watching television vs movies. I have watched 1000s of hours form my childhood to my mid twenties and 1000s of you and 1000s movies. Tv sucks and is mostly a waste of time, only enjoyable when I'm too low functioning to appreciate a better movie.

The experience of watching the Sopranos/The Wire over an extended period of time is definitely a positive for the medium, but how many shows are worth doing that for? You named a handful from the entire history of television. I think that says something about TV as an artform

What is the best show since Mad Men? I assume Succession is up there. Succession is great and I watched through it twice but there are probably a dozen films every year that are better.

I don’t disagree that film is better than TV, just giving some examples of good TV and that I get a different experience out of TV than I do film. Currently severance is airing and it’s fun to discuss week to week with my gf and friends while still being very great.

depends on how you count limited series. people like to say “oh this is really an 8 hour movie” but, like, no it is not lol.

station eleven was incredible but there was one season. as far as ongoing series go, yeah, it’s probably succession. severance is on its way.

I am still trying to get through Twin Peaks because of how good people say The Return is. I am slogging through objectively bad and boring 1hr episodes of a show to get to something good.

The best part of television was that everyone watched the same thing each week and you got to talk about it with friends and colleagues. That's now gone thanks to streams. Just put the old dog it down

  13. I love one season series. Especially with how many series get cancelled these days.

I think people forget how bad television can be, especially how bad it used to be. Frasier was one of the most critically acclaimed shows of all time but it is still a formula where actors rush through hitting their marks so people can have their comfort show.

I am not watching tv because I’m looking to get the same thing out of it as a movie. Apples and oranges

Conversely, last night I watched this movie Iced from 1988 where a dead skier kills his friends in a cabin. Parts were boring, it was not as fun as some other 80s slashers, but I was still entertained and it was over in 88 mins. I enjoyed myself much more than having to sit through 4 boring Twin Peaks episodes for maybe 3 total interesting/good scenes

Season Two? Lynch had left and they really struggled to keep going.

Yes. The hour and a half premiere was especially brutal. Again, you get a scene or two of brilliance, but at what cost?

Even bad movies are better than bad tv. There are countless bad movies that have an Insanity to them that is personal and fun. That shit just isn't there for tv, you just get slop and good slop doesn't even get past the piolet

tv has absolutely surpassed movies. the ability to build up character development isn't comparable.

Something like the "third season" of Twin Peaks really blurs the line between film and television. It is much more like the movie Fire Walk With Me than anything in the first two seasons. It is more unified artistically like a film, with Lynch directing every episode.
