It’s been a while since I’ve watched but that sounds right haha

 

We are reading Macbeth and I compared Macbeth killing Banquo to stop the family line to the Terminator trying to kill Sarah Connor and I didn't get a single response. That series feels so new to me but it would be like referencing something from the Sixties when I was in school. Makes me feel old.

 

I mean, Squid Game is a lot shorter at least.

 

One of the students said the reason I won't watch Squid Game is because it has subtitles.

Made a Companion thread, just an FYI for any who has seen it.

 

The ending of Riverdale is just so stupid and is so against the core of the Archie characters that have existed for decades.

It's a show that is just using the IP but has absolutely nothing to do with it, just another teenage horny murder story.

(By the way, I'm not opposed to "adult" or "edgy" adaptations of works, Afterlife With Archie was pretty good)

Doesn’t it end with the four main cast members in a polycule? If so, that’s actually pretty faithful to the characters, lol.

Well, not really to Jughead. That dude should 100% be aro/ace and just obsessed with food. But, the other three are totally all simultaneously in love with each other.

 

The last part is the key. It's NOT faithful because there's no reason why Archie, Betty or Veronica would romantically and sexually be interested in Jughead and he's not interested in romance or sex. There's also more to it then them just being in a polycule.

Ffs, they cast Grundy as a 35 year old woman who sleeps with Archie when he's 15 or so and then gets charged with rape
It's a trash show. It's entertaining as it's own thing, but associating it with the Archie IP is just stupid.

 

During our unit on civic participation and political parties, I mention Arnold mroe than once and actually show his campaign ad from the recall election in 2003 and there is like zero reaction. Most kids don't even seem to know who he is.

That's a failure of parenting TBH...how are you now showing your teenaged kids 80s and 90s action movies?! lol

I’ll always appreciate Homer’s feud with the Riverdale folk.

 

Both Mark Waid and Chip Zdarsky did pretty good stuff with Archie and Jughead in the last decade.

Always love a good bit from The Simpsons too haha

 

Honestly, while that whole “modern” Archie reboot last decade led by Waid was a factor in me finally getting into those comics… they’re not really what I want from Archie comics.

Cool that Chip Zdarsky made Jughead “officially” aro/ace, and cool that the Betty & Veronica mini had rare Adam Hughes interiors. Love that the archetypes and relationships are strong enough to translate into a variety of contexts. But, nothing hits better than an old school 5 or 6 page humor strip about Betty and/or Veronica in the style of Dan DeCarlo.



I think it says a lot about the magic of that style, that Harry Lucey is one of the biggest influences of Jaime Hernandez, who’s probably the greatest American cartoonist of all time.

Older runs of Archie are untouchable. I just got a 1971 The World of Archie as part of their Giant series and it's so good.

 

I just love classic comics so much. They're cozy if that makes any sense.
