Ben Stiller was not a movie star. A big actor, sure, but not a movie star.

they made like eight night at the museum movies and he carried the biggest studio comedies for like a few year stretch

if he isn’t a movie star, people like owen wilson and seth rogen aren’t either (they are)

Yeah Rogen is more of a big time producer than a big star actor now. He basically became Judd Apatow.

Wilson has been riding off voiceover work and Wes Anderson films for a decade. The biggest live action role he had in the last 10 years was as a supporting character in a streaming superhero show.

Movie stars are guys like Will Smith or Bruce Willis. Ben Stiller was never on the same level as guys like Sandler or Jim Carrey.

He was a massive comedy star, in an entirely different era. But he can't carry a theatrical film to success in this current era. That is my pov at least. He is representative of a type of a style that frankly feels dated in 2024. I like Ben Stiller too, Heavyweights and Cable Guy were my childhood, but his star has faded a lot since his peak in Tropic Thunder.

Although I did hear that 20th Century did greenlight Dodgeball 2.

The best argument for Stiller being a star was when theaters had to put up signs warning people that Greenberg was not what they thought it was because he was in it.

it’s not just guys like stiller who faded. Clooney / Pitt / Hanks / Smith (will) have all faded in the same way stiller did.

I would agree with all those except Hanks. Although he has had more misses than hits in the past 10 years, Sully, The Post, and Elvis were still very successful.

Pitt is leading in Kosinki's $300 million budget attempt at doing a Top Gun: Maverick but for race cars this summer, so we will see if if he still has the box office juice that Cruise still has. That will be A big test.

i think that movie is supposed to be closer to him recapturing moneyball than it is to maverick, it just has the same director lol

Pitt is absolutely still a movie star, my opinion is that his star has begun to fade

From the budget and director my assumption is it is going to be a practical effects showpiece.

they marketed that movie horrendously, half the trailer is the space pirates scene and that scene in the movie is like three minutes of the movie and never replicated lol

Ad Astra should have been advertised as Tommy Lee Jones’s anticipated return to outer space.
