some dvds dont even have special features anymore, let alone bloopers

 

There are plenty of boutique labels putting out packed discs, but it is a bummer that mainstream releases have gotten rid of them for the most part.

 

the downside too is that even if they end up in a dedicated section on streaming, they lack the fun, unique menu designs that some studios put on their releases for years, complete with Easter eggs and other hidden features. nowadays, most physical releases by major studios are bare-bones, with a lot less thought out into the visual experience of scrolling through the content on the disc. maybe i'm wrong and some studios still do this, and if so, props to them! but it feels less common with major releases.

Piece by Piece hits digital tomorrow.

 

I saw Piece by Piece the other week, and it was… decent! Not amazing, and there was one specific thing recreated with Legos in the last act that was unintentionally hilarious. But, it was a solid gimmick that imo mostly worked (in spite of also clearly being a commercial for both Legos and Pharrell).

I have been out of the loop. What are the big important winter movies? I should be able to see Anora this weekend and you can't forget a name like The Brutalist, but what else? There is the Eastwood movie too.

Tough to say what will be big and important, but there’s buzz for “A Real Pain,” “September 5.” “Nickel Boys,” “Babygirl” and “Emilia Perez.”

 

Looking forward to Anora, Queer, The Brutalist, The Room Next Door, Babygirl, Juror #2, A Complete Unknown, A Real Pain, Nickel Boys, and Small Things Like These.

Will reluctantly watch Conclave and Emilia Pérez, but I don't have high hopes for either.

The jury is still out on Gladiator II.
