So many of the films being shown at the Venice Film Festival sound really dope and I want to see them right now

 

Just seen on Twitter, so wanted to share here, a big collection of all (nearly all?) of Johnnie To's films; 229.01 GB folder on MEGA

If don't know Johnnie To, he's a fantastic Hong Kong director, specialising mostly in crime thrillers, usually involving morally ambiguous police officers and triads, often blurring the line between the two. Great use of on location, city shooting in Hong Kong, and most of his films are a nice tight-90 minutes. Has also worked in other genres, like rom-coms or superhero films. Just a great genre filmmaker, similar to someone like Steven Soderbergh perhaps.

There's a lot of films on the link, but if you haven't seen any, I'd recommend Drug War, PTU, Mad Detective, Don't Go Breaking My Heart & The Heroic Trio. Lots I haven't seen still, but pretty much everything I watch from him is worth watching.

 

I was super excited by the reactions to The Brutalist and then I saw the runtime...

 

And now you're even more excited right?

 

Yeah it's not great.

 

Man you guys are killing me. It’s not great but it’s entertaining as hell. The 80s action movie vibes of 3 are only surpassed by the 80s horror movie vibes of 4

 

I love to make fun of Stranger Things and then binge the entire season of movie length episodes in a day

 

Season 4 was a chore to get through.

 

Tv episodes shouldn’t be that long

 

Not consistently anyway

 

Comedies are 20 minutes dramas 45, The Bear has to be a comedy now because it's too long

 

I don't disagree, I just somehow couldn't look away lol

Probably a case of the sunken cost fallacy

 

Goodfellas seems like the ideal answer.

 

This is how I felt about the last season of Ted Lasso.

 

Psycho or Jaws.

 

I loved season 4 but yes the longer episodes got…well, long. But I will always take the extra content hahs

 

My issue with stranger things is that it’s bee 8 years and it’s still not done. Waiting 2 years in between seasons is ridiculous.

 

First season was decent. Didn’t much care beyond that

 

The show is as old as my post college career

 

Holy fuck The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a brilliant film haha

 

12 Angry Men if they're willing to watch black and white

 

DirectTV subscribers are freaking out over losing access to ESPN
