Yeah anytime you say woke killed comedy just look at Sunny lol

 

I know some here may disagree with this, and there is a lot of grey area and caveats to this statement (punching up vs punching down, ect) , but I do think there is generally is some truth to the philosophy i have heard a bunch of comics nowadays have

Social taboos and values are contantly shifting. Edgey Comedy is about predicting what you could say tomorrow that you couldnt yesterday, its often confused with much lazier conservative observational version: saying what isnt ok today but was yesterday.

 

The differences are evident within the show Seinfeld itself. He decided to cite the rickshaw, which was never that funny to begin with. Newman literally says they are doing it to spare horses, so apparently the homeless are worse than animals. The three homeless men are the butt of the joke. It is mean spirited, lazy punching down. It is much funnier to watch something like the contest, which ultimately has a more timeless quality and is critiquing societal expectations.

 

Remember when they took down the community d&d episode lol

 

The rickshaw joke can be read as a critic on entrepreneurship/capitalism, taking its inherent exploitation to an absurd level. Newman and Kramers justifications and actions are writen as idiotic.

I havent seen it in years, it might be worse than i remember on homeless people

 

One of the homeless guys says his name is Potato Salad. He has no shirt on. When Kramer pats one on the back dust comes off of him. One wanders off mid-setence. It is all the ugliest stereotypes.

This is a show where Elaine literally gets a job while walking down the street and Kramer lives in an expensive Midtown apartment with no apparent income. It was never a class conscious show but when it was good it wasn't making fun of people without homes.

 

Pretty soon, Brian Cox is just gonna name by name, insulting everyone on Earth.

 

Olivia Wilde is a pretty good director when she's not (allegedly) distracted by her male lead. The rumor that Flo basically directed half of DWW is wild

Never seen these movies, but this is a real cool thing. Would love more CGI movies to do it.
