It's a great show

 

Its a show whose politics and writing make me cringe, but for some reason I keep going back to it when I'm bored and can't find anything else to watch.

 

I'm about halfway through the first season. CJ doesn't know what the Census is? Josh's assistant doesn't understand budget surpluses? You need a "regular" character so they can explain government ideas that people really should have learned in middle school, but why them and why is it always men explaining to women?

 

Spoiler: You got about 6 and a half more seasons of that. The wonks explaining obvious wonk stuff to other wonks does not stop, and you have only scratched the surface of patronizing of women his show does.

cause I don’t need to watch a tv show about liberals feeling conflicted about the harm they cause by upholding the status quo and telling people a better world is possible via democracy, I watched a bunch of the original West Wing and got enough of it. I don’t need to see an Aaron Sorkin show dive into a January 6th parallel or invent a fake country to try and tackle something like Gaza. His modernist sensibilities make his political works worse, he’s best when other people pull the good subtext from his stuff like Fincher in the Social Network.

 

Its worth getting more anti-right wing propaganda, not for you to watch but to pipeline people first into thinking about politics and then to the left.

I think we’ve had enough rehashes of old IP created to maintain a status quo artistically and ideologically and that in today’s TV climate the show’s audience would almost exclusively be people who watch because they already agree with it.

All the West Wing / Newsroom talk made me go back and watch the Newsroom clip where they announce Bin Laden’s death for like the 10th time.

It truly is the funniest scene ever written. Tim Robinson couldn’t write something this ridiculous.
