Stop Making Sense in a theater was a great experience. I believe it is the first IMAX film since the science center field trips when I was in elementary school.

Talking Heads are admittedly kind of a blind spot for me. Gonna try to go see it tomorrow night.

 

I knew like 3 songs and still loved it

 

Even though you know the big suit is coming and it's been referenced by others, it is still very funny.

 

I love them but I think even if you don't know any of their songs (you'll probably know at least 3 or 4) it's still just a complete blast. amazing all around.

 

While The Talking Heads are a great and important band, the reason the concert film is still so revered all these years later is the showmanship of the band and Demme's direction. There is a song in the middle that plays with lighting and shadows that is really impressive. My Steam name is lifeduringwartime so that has always been my favorite part, but even still seeing it in this format is amazing. The dancing and calisthenics routine borders on that line between sincere versus ridiculous.

It is a little depressing that the Taylor Swift movie coming out in a few weeks will make a thousand times more than this while doing the bare minimum in terms of filming techniques.

 

yeah the lighting during the one song makes it look like Byrne has a mask on, it's really cool. my favorite song is still this must be the place though.

 

nothing in film or music is better than the performance of crosseyed and painless

That kid crumbled immediately!

 

Saw "Stop Making Sense" last night. Incredible transfer and sound. Was a joy to see in the theater. The amount of physicality throughout it is still pretty amazing.

Only problem was it was a bunch of older people in the audience and not one of them responding to the music at all.

 

yeah a ton of old folks when I saw it that looked miserable

 

I was afraid since it was an A24 movie, they'd show the trailer for "Dicks: The Musical" and there would be a mass exodus.

 

Holy shit at that Resurrection clip.

 

I started playing guitar again recently and I can't imagine running in place while playing.

I was wondering why the drummer was wearing a blue shirt when everyone else had costumes and apparently they just literally didn't get washed in time and Demme required the musicians to wear the same clothes all four nights so they could splice the footage without it seeming off.
