I wonder how Disney's rumored equivalent to Tubi/Pluto is going.

Very curious what the selection on that will be, if will be all traditional Disney stuff, or if they will put some adult oriented Fox, FX, and Hulu joints on there too.

We've been using Pluto a lot recently, just because it's decent simulacrum of cable. The ads get really annoying really fast though. There's so many and they're the same ones over and over.

Tubi has a ton of weird shit you can't find anywhere else, especially horror, it's great.

But it is funny that people are really just craving a return to cable, it's just nice to be able to throw something on and not have to choose.

I don't think I've ever heard of Tubi or Pluto.

  5. My friend has a show premiering this week on Tubi, so I'll use it for that, but I can't stand watching anything with ads anymore, unless it's just one at the beginning.

I luckily am still logged into my ex’s Hulu live (knock on wood) and it is nice when I get off work to just throw on Seinfeld or ESPN or something while I’m doing stuff around the apartment.

Like that Paramount+ and Peacock also have live TV feature.

Paramount+'s is basically a slimmed down version of Pluto. Only difference being that on P+ you get a live stream of your local CBS affiliate station.

I don't like how on Peacock if you pick a channel it starts whatever is playing from the beginning, I want to be able to just pop into different things at different points like cable.

I do miss being able to just throw something on, but one thing I also miss specifically about broadcast TV that I don't think streaming can recreate is tv lineups.

There was comfort in flipping the TV after school or work and you know youre getting two syndicated shows, the 7pm local news, 4 sitcom episodes, an hour long drama, the 11pm local news, and then late night shows until 1:30am.

Never thought of it that way, but yeah that's definitely something I miss. Local news, Jeopardy, into Wheel of Fortune. Must See TV Thursday night lineups. After school and Saturday Morning cartoons. Obviously TGIF.

The greatest TV lineup of all time: Fox Sundays late 90's/early 2000's :Family Guy, Futurama, King Of The Hill, The Simpsons, Malcolm In The Middle, X-Files

Also I think Cops and America's Most Wanted would also air from 7-8 before the animation started at 8.

10000%. I subscribed to Philo for free recently and: A) It has to be one of the worst UIs for a cable streamer. B) If there was a movie on on one of the movie channels, it would automatically play it from the start. Like, no, I just want to come in on the the part of “School of Rock” where they’re making up songs, not watch the whole thing.

I do not miss popping into the middle of shows. I like having control of what I watch.

I'm selective about what I'll watch on Tubi. If it feels like a movie that's suited to being a late-night or Saturday-afternoon cable watch, I'm down. But some movies I feel like the commercials cheapen. It's obviously a ludicrously subjective metric.

I like when a movie is on Tubi but not on streaming feels the last little bastion of indie exclusivity good for you

This was a really great article. It is depressing how much RT has impacted film. This is a good reminder to folks to find a few critics to actually read regularly as opposed to just relying on aggregators.

I had Paramount+ for a few months and I loved starting the day with the local news channel. It was the one thing that almost made me pay for it once I lost the free hook up.

Honestly I don't get why every other major company's streamers don't also do that. Where you can watch your local ABC feed live on basic Hulu or your local NBC feed live on Peacock.
