Here's the complete list of movies I have seen this year (aside from films I worked on), ranked from favorite to least favorite:

    1. The Menu
    2. Beau Is Afraid (quit after an hour and a half)

  2. mattav152

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

I dont really go to the theater much these days so I'm usually pretty late to the party. Out of the 15 movies from 2023 I've seen:

    1. GOTG3
    2. Infinity Pool
    3. Cocaine Bear

  3. riotspray

Fair. Just surprised to hear that from you.

I've seen 32 films in theaters this year, really excited for the fall slate but concerned about what we actually get now that my town is down to one theater.

I will drive 3 hours if I have to to see Killers of the Flower Moon.

So directly making the ending say, in that world, “God literally was saying that couple had to do what they did to avert armageddon” was a bit much for me. Really landed terribly, for complicated personal reasons, lol. I think simply massaging the ending where there’s more ambiguity, where it’s a little more up to interpretation how much was reading into coincidence, etc., would’ve made a big difference. I guess I could choose to interpret some of that as a subjective, unreliable perspective of the events instead of so literal, lol, but… idk. I just really wish the text handled that differently.

Layoffs starting today. 9% of the global workforce. It is kept super insulated and hush hush so I am only hearing rumors so far.

Keeping my company's board on TheLayoff.com open all day checking it.

This is where I land as well. I really liked it, but the ending left me feeling like the film itself couldn't figure out what it was trying to say.

My top choice of the year would have been Close, but that came out in 2022 apparently.

They employ around 15K people globally. This is roughly 1,300 people getting laid off.

My team lead just got laid off. Got confirmation of that.

I think I might be ok for now. So far it is just middle management positions that they feel like have redundancies.

  13. Looking through people's lists reminds me of movies I need to see.

    1. Across the Spider-Verse
    2. Oppenheimer
    3. GotG 3
    4. M:I Dead Reckoning
    5. Past Lives
    6. Barbie
    7. John Wick 4
    8. How to Blow Up a Pipeline
    9. They Cloned Tyrone
    10. Talk To Me

They Cloned Tyrone, Talk To Me, and Bottoms are the ones I want to see soon. I don't really know what the fall slate looks like outside of Killers of the Flower Moon. I'm gonna have to do some research I guess.

This is a good segue to a follow up question for this thread I was planning to ask…

What’s everyone’s most anticipated for the rest of the year?

And now some of our main managers are getting the cut. On the TV Audience Measurement side of things (I am on the radio side ) I hear its a massacre.

    Poor Things
    Killers of the Flower Moon
    Rebel Moon
    Priscilla
    The Creator
    May December
    Ferrari
    Zone of Interest
Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes

The toll so far in my department: three market managers and four team leads. No word on front line people getting the axe yet.

Really makes the idea of advancement here even when this promotion/hiring freeze ends seem futile. Why even try to grow when if you do you're putting a target on your back?

I’m very behind and my watchlist is massive, but here’s some stuff I loved, unranked.

    Clock
    Jagged Mind
    Nimona
Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret
    Super Mario Bros
    Miguel Wants To Fight

Red, White, and Royal Blue was fun, it’s really nice to be getting more queer romcoms that aren’t traumatizing. Gonna make a big effort to get caught up through the end of the year

My manager is bawling in our team meeting right now. This is forreal.
