If you don’t have time to actually watch something how it’s intended just don’t watch it?

I’ve tried listening to podcast at 1.5 speed and it just doesn’t work for me. You truly don’t have to consume everything.

Overcast has smart speed which shortens any excessive dead air, and it tells me it’s saved me 600hrs of listening time lol. Can’t stand listening to anything actually sped up

VLC player, ive set my youtube skip to 5secs.

I think some people dont think about art and have never experienced its power, they just watch entertainment. There is plenty of content that caters to this and is free game to be skiped and fast fowarded through if its not doing its job and when they come across art they treat it the same.

If you need to speed through something you probably don't actually like that something

That is true, I would rather read the script to a podcast than listen to one.

Id noticed a pattern in television that it increasing relies on manipulating tension towards the end of an episode to make you watch the next one. The filler scenes in the middle are often not worth watching, they are skeletons; no care is put into them, nothing interesting happens they just get the job done and allow the plot to move to the next scene.

When I first took the dive into podcasts, I had things slightly sped up (don't remember the settings) and didn't mind. That wasn't that many years ago, but I already can't imagine doing that ever again, lol.

    Maybe it's because I'm old.

The shows I watch don’t really do this. Though, I don’t watch a lot of TV, so I’m not saying this isn’t true. I just really only watch ones that are highly rated or don’t do the whole ending tension thing.

The ending ramping up tension at the end isn’t bad on its own. Shows like 24 and LOST (among many others) used it to great effect back in the day. But both, in certain seasons, would have a lot of great stuff during the episode. There was a lot to take in during those seasons. As always, people tend to take the wrong lessons from things that were successful.

All due respect but what the fuck are you talking about? Are you watching CBS shows or something?

Man I am guilty of lying to myself that I can watch every movie, read every book, and hear every album. But it’s out of a genuinely voracious curiosity. Not a sense of duty, which is the only way to justify sped-up viewing.

You’re right about this. The Walking Dead was one of the all-time worst culprits. Excitement at the beginning, spin your wheels for 35 minutes, cliffhanger. But then I stopped watching The Walking Dead because that made it a shitty show

Im on my television warpath again. I spent too much time uncritically watching tv, getting sucked in consuming garbage.

There is so much amazing art in the world produced by thoughtful people who pour their souls into it.

Tv doesn't give a fuck, it gives its writers a week to write an episode and If you watch the next one that's money in the bank.

again stop watching bad television? I can’t imagine watching something like the sopranos or the wire or newer shows like better call Saul, succession or the bear and thinking this is bad I need to skip parts or “they only had a week to write this”. It sounds like you’re just watching stuff like young Sheldon.
