If I ever get to an AMC that actually gets the room that dark (or bothers to turn on the AC at this point), I would be more concerned, tbh. There's too much light pollution to see my screen for a second or two in my local AMCs.

I sound like a boomer every time I say this but Tiktok has fucking destroyed this generation's understanding of social norms

If it wasn't TikTok it would be something else. Every time someone goes to a concert they put so much of it on Snapchat or Instagram.

    Mediums change.

I think it’s felt acutely with phones in theaters because the contrast is so heightened; a theater is a space for total immersion into its medium, the phone is an abstraction from a space/physicality

I mean I can’t imagine watching the goonies for the first time in 2023 and enjoying it

I don't think I've ever been to a concert where someone's conversation was loud enough to hear over the artist.

Unless you're like... 5, there isn't a reason why you should just now be seeing The Goonies for the first time. Especially if you're 39 like that person is.

Why not? I rewatched it recently and liked it as much as when I first saw it in 8th grade

Eh, I don’t think judging someone for missing a movie makes sense. It’s actually really easy to not see a movie and just never see it for years.

I haven’t read the article. So, I’m not defending anything they wrote. As many movies as I see, there are always some that slip through the cracks for various reasons.

  15. "Well, anyway, while other '90s kids watched a whole bunch of movies when they were younger, I would literally watch the same movies over and over again, so I must have seen Big Trouble over 40 times, and that's no exaggeration.

Now, I had seen bits and pieces of The Goonies when I was younger, since it was always on TV, but I would always catch it at different times, so I'd never seen it in its entirety. Until a week ago, that is."

Ok, reading the article now, I'll give this guy a pass.

If you can't wait 90-180 minutes to send a text or google something, just step outside or into the hallway, super simple and you're not ruining anyone else's experience.

  17. The only time I don't judge someone for checking their phone during the movie is if they are sitting in the very back row. Because then I assume they bought a ticket for that seat specifically because they need to be on-call or whatever, and I respect that they're at least considerate enough to do that. No judgement there.

  19. Nah if I gotta check IMDb real quick and I'm sitting in the back row I'm gonna fuckin check it sorry not sorry

You don't need to check IMDB during the movie, they have credits at the end of the movie for that very purpose.

I’m pretty sure IMDB only works during the movie.

I can't imagine a scenario in which someone NEEDS to check IMDB while in the theater, and don't know how anyone's life would be different if they just waited until the movie was over. Other people still sit in the backrows, I'm not sure how that makes it any better.
