My Barbie screening was pretty bad, lots of flashes from people taking pictures

  2. There was a girl next to me at Talk To Me who was on her phone texting literally the entire movie. I don’t think she once looked up at the screen.

It's happening so often now, it's infuriating. Had to ask a guy sitting next to my girlfriend the other day to get off his phone, then the next time I went by myself a dude who had to be in his 50s was on his phone the whole time. I recently unfollowed someone on Instagram because they posted a video from the theater and one of our best friend's wives posted a pic of the screen while she was watching Barbie and we were like okay I guess we can never go to the movies with them.

Those videos at the beginning need to not just say silence your phones, but do not bring them out at all, not that I think it will help much but those people need to be shamed as much as possible.

I felt bad for checking my phone yesterday. I thought I was the only one in the theater but there was a man slouching way up top.

I’ve been in my confrontation bag for years now, so if there’s constant audible conversation near me or someone scrolling obnoxiously on full brightness I’ll call them out. Most people have at least some morsel of shame once their behavior has been singled out in a crowd, especially if the scene of the movie was quiet enough for the whole theater to hear it happen.

I do not do this to a group of eight or more teens. They’re too powerful in such numbers.

I've seen phone usage during movies, but this is the first I'm hearing about camera flashes going off. That's insane. WTF?? :explode:

Someone on twitter posted that they were trying to take a picture in a movie and didn’t know their flash was going to go off, and it lit up the room. Something about how they were embarrassed. Like, put your fuckin’ phone away

  8. I sometimes check my phone during the movie, but I'm usually in the very back (when it's a small theater), and I only look for like five seconds, and yet I still feel bad about it. I can't imagine having the audacity to scroll tiktok through an entire movie, at that point why are you even at the theater?

10 a.m. showings are the key.

  11. Yup, earlier showings (for horror movies especially) are key.

Yeah morning movies are great. I have a hard time hearing dialogue if I’m in a full theater and everyone is laughing. Which is a great part of the theater experience, it’s just not for me

Pre A List it was always fun to go to a matinee with 4 people at least one of whom will provide an interesting experience
11/11:30 for me I'm waking up at 10 lol

  14. If I could be the only person in a movie theater, at a concert, on an airplane, in a swimming pool, etc. I'd be very pleased!

it's so fucked up that people will treat a public space like a movie theater like it's their damn living room all the time, but you're the asshole if you say please put your phone away or quiet down while the film is playing

  19. lastnight, i was at the Stone Temple Pilots/Smashing Pumpkins show, and during STP, a guy and his friend sat on the lawn next to me, and one of them wouldn't stop talking. and since the band was playing, he was yelling extra loud. his friend was trying to take video of a couple songs and the guy still couldn't stop blabbing. i glared at him a couple times and then eventually i just got up and moved somewhere else. haha

When I saw Anberlin earlier this year on the New Surrender night, I stood in the back which has a bar. These three guys stood right behind me at the bar the entire set talking loudly to each other. It’s so bizarre. I really wanted to ask them “Why did you pay money to buy overpriced alcohol and talk the entire time? You didn’t even listen to the band. What is wrong with you?”

I went to a comedy show once and a guy and girl were sitting in the row in front of me and they kept telling everyone around them that they were on their first date. And he kept telling the girl how stoked he was to see the headliner (I think it was Mulaney.) The guy kept ordering drinks and was the type of comedy show crowd member that reacts to every single rhetorical question the comedian asks and shit, as if they're the only person in the room. By the time the headliner came out, the dude was already sound asleep in his seat, and he slept through their entire set. The girl looked uncomfortable the entire night. I felt so bad for her haha.

The more I think about it, it's kind of genius to go on the first couple dates with someone to a restaurant, comedy show, and concert. See how they behave at each of those things and then decide if their behavior is tolerable, and then break it off if you need to before you get too deep into the relationship.

I'll use my phone occasionally in a movie to send a text to my wife or check an actor's name, but the screen brightness is down as low as it will go, it's never out for more than a few seconds, and most movies I see are pretty sporadically full. I wouldn't even take it out of my pocket if there were people on either side of me.

People who are full-brightness or watching videos or whatever are sociopaths.

Eh even the lowest brightness can be distracting in a pitch black room, my fiance hates when I use my phone or tablet in bed at the lowest possible brightness
