I would love something like that for certain months, mostly the winter, but I would have no use for it in other months. I expected to see some sort of catch like you can't see the movie for its first two weeks, but otherwise that is an interesting experiment.

I'm definitely thinking about it. My main concern with a subscription service like this is that the data could be used to make even more by the numbers movies. Like some exec will see some data and say "men aged 26-34 went to see this movies according to moviepass data. We need to copy these movies!".

That is a concern, but it can also have positive effects. People are more willing to experiment with Netflix because they are not paying per item.

I'm totally down for that. Especially since it's like the price of one ticket.'

edit: do a little Googling. MoviePass seems to have A LOT of issues.

I was going to sign up but it wouldn't show me any of the participating theaters in advance of giving them my credit card. I also read reviews that said there are limited numbers of tickets available for each theater and that you can only go to each theater a certain number of times. Not sure of the validity of these statements. Please report back once you start using it.

I was going to, but the site wasn't working.

I'm a little more hesitant to do it now, given this info. Might depend on the number of participating theaters near me.

  12. I'll wait a little while for the hype to die down and for any issues to pop up. Sounds appealing but also too good to be true without a catch.

Yeah, I'm definitely thinking about waiting a few months to get some feedback first

It's got a two week free trial, so I might jump on that and if it's not worth it I'll just cancel before it charges me.

It showed a free month when I went to the site earlier. Tempting, but I'll hold off for now.

When I went to their site this afternoon at work, it took a while to load, but I didn't think much of it because I was doing other things and not really paying attention. I'm trying to go there again now from home, and it's taken a full 5 minutes before the site loaded.

Obviously, for it to be viable long term, they have to reach some sort of agreement with the theaters. They want you to buy popcorn and soda more than anything else anyway, so this can be in your best interest unless you are one of those people who does not eat during a movie.

I just don't understand how they are possibly making money off of this. Considering the fact that they cover the whole price of the ticket, which is almost always over $10, even if you were to only see one movie a month that puts them in a deficit. Obviously there's something to this that I don't quite understand but it's very bizarre. @Morrissey I think you're probably correct that they will make some deal regarding concessions. I rarely buy concessions so this could be great for me.

I'm wondering if the site is just bad (which doesn't reflect well for the functionality of this plan) or if the announcement today is just overloading the server (which, I suppose isn't a good look either, but it's more understandable).

I'm a popcorn fiend, this would definitely encourage that habit with how much I'd save on tickets.

Cinema Sins is unwatchable. I have never made it through more than a minute of any of their videos.

You don't need to hear Cinema Sins "deconstruct" movies any more than you need to hear Andrew Dice Clay explain why Shakespeare sucked
