That sounds like a big deal. Especially if they pull Marvel and lucas stuff.

Although lets be real, netflix has never really been about the movies

Agreed, losing Marvel and Lucas Film stuff would suck for Netflix, but it's all about binging shows and Netflix originals (Movies, Shows and Stand Ups)

  3. I've been hearing murmurs now and then about how Netflix wants to move away from licensed content to focus on their original content anyways, so this sorta feels like an inevitable direction.

I read that as "Netflix to pull movies from library" and almost panicked, even though their movie library isn't too impressive. Just Disney? Maybe Marvel and Lucasfilm? Not missing anything.

  5. I just read an article on James Cameron and the Avatar sequels and I still can't believe we're getting 4 freaking Avatar sequels. The first one isn't even due in theaters until 2020!

I love Red Letter Media, but I don't know if I can stomach an hour long review of Ghostbusters.

RLM already did a takedown of Ghostbusters last year. This is pointless. Between this and that "We created Slenderman, but we're gonna humblebrag and say we didn't" video makes me think they must be low on ideas.

Well, to be fair, a Plinkett review is a little different from their standard reviews. They reviewed The Force Awakens and also did a Plinkett review. Also, it's pretty funny.

Wonder Woman Was Reportedly Funded by the Koch Brothers. That Shouldn’t Surprise Any of Us.

The people who actually run the country stifle real social change by profiting off a very shallow manipulation of worthy movements of gender/racial diversity while simultaneously using their power to prevent those things from ever happening.

So they invested in a company that invested in another company and that means they paid for all of Wonder Woman?

abhorrent people are behind just about every single big budget studio movie. that company funded Dunkirk too, and Ready Player One.

Mad Max: Fury Road as well, which is a stronger feminist work than Wonder Woman but funded similarly. Collateral Beauty, Live By Night, Batman v. Superman, American Sniper. It's shitty but I don't think it makes consumers of Wonder Woman who liked the movie hypocrites. It's just impossible to avoid in mainstream American filmmaking.

Of course they are not hypocrites; people did not even know about this, and most people don't think that deeply about that side of filmmaking. It is a bigger problem within capitalism itself; when the CEO of Chick-fil-a directly made anti-gay comments, people were able to easily identify the opponent, but here it is more illusive. It is not impossible to avoid, though; just stop seeing mainstream movies.

I meant impossible to avoid in the funding of mainstream movies, my bad. You're right about everything else. It's exceptionally horrible.

If the movie going populace switched from Marvel to Malick, guess who is getting the Koch brother's money now?

There isn't any easy or perfect solution. It is a larger socioeconomic issue of companies masking themselves in socially progressive ideas while also committing horrific acts abroad. Coca-Cola has a diversity mission and tries to promote a positive image, but at the same time it steals water from indigenous people throughout the world. I type this on my lunch break while I watch a YouTube video that funds Google and I am drinking a Coca-Cola. We are all part of the problem, but it is bigger than us.
