What was wrong with Craig Ferguson?

I often watch old clips from Ferguson's show on YouTube because he makes me laugh my ass off. His interactions with Geoff Peterson are brilliant.

I don't keep up with late night shows at all any more, but I dig whatever Seth Meyers is doing with the rotating drummers.

There were two talk shows that I watched EVERY single night once I discovered them and that was Conan and Craig Ferguson. I've been watching Conan since I was literally like 11 (I don't even remember how I discovered him, he's just always been there for me lol), and I saw every last episode of his TBS show. For Craig I discovered his show one night and was like "what the fuck is going on" but I was also dying laughing and I knew I needed to see as much of this as possible. I really miss him

Also Corden is way worse than Fallon

Every once in a while there will be a Fallon clip with a guest plus a title that intrigues me and if you told him the chicken crossed the road to get to the other side he would be on the floor laughing. He steps on so many good bits, too. I know Corden is terrible based on stopping traffic to dance but his interviews don't even come across my radar.

Conan is far and away the best that I watched. Never watched Letterman but he was the clear favorite for my favorite comics. Everyone else stinks

Conan just matches my sense of humor and I'm excited for what's next on TV and I absolutely love the podcast. He does great with his guests, but his bits with Sona and Matt (like the chill chums bits) are fantastic.

Fallon as many have pointed out, steps on the toes of his guests and joins in too much on the bits. Whenever Fred Armistan is on, he tries to make himself part of the bit and it's annoying. But I do think he has a good comedy mind, and some of the segments he's coined, at least to me, are pretty inventive and funny.

Leno/Letterman both weren't for me. Letterman especially. He had an edge to his snarkness that pushed it into the nasty territory, and Leno was just too smug.

Craig Ferguson is cool though I haven't watched much. The clips of where he weaves his personal life into his monologues, like his alcoholism are great and touching but I don't know what his show was like on a regular basis.

James Corden - I don't hate as much as some but no thanks.

Stephen Colbert - I haven't watched his show but the Colbert report is an all timer.

Jimmy Kimmell - never watched so have no idea what style of talk show he resides over.

EDIT: All that typing and I missed people but I'll leave them off as if I didn't think of them, I have no opinion.

  18. Letterman is nice in the bits of his Netflix show I've seen but he seems so mean on late night. I think Seth and Trevor are the best at interviewing people. I think as a whole though I prefer Graham's and Conan's shows. Conan's travel episodes are especially great. Fallon/Kimmel/Corden can be pretty annoying. Colbert would be great if he wasn't on CBS

Conan was my favorite for sure. As others have said, his sense of humor just matches mine. Though I started watching his show very young, so it's fair to say he probably helped shape my sense of humor.

Letterman was great. Mean? Maybe. But he didn't feel the need to suck up to his guests and that's what made his show more interesting.

Craig was very hit or miss for me. But I appreciated how weird his show was. Having a talking skeleton be his co-host was delightful and I liked his intimate close-up monologues.

Leno was whatever. Fallon has some fun viral bits, but overall very unwatchable for all the reasons people have said. I don't really care for him as a late-night host, but Corden did Gavin and Stacey, so I have a soft spot for him (though by all accounts he is a shit person).

Cobert makes me the saddest. The Colbert Report was incredible and his show now feels like an hour-long version of the Occupy Democrats twitter account.

Letterman, like the Simpsons, suffers from being so much better early in his career that people who only know the later era don't understand the hype.

Letterman’s massively creepy and just generally shitty towards women. Mean is whatever but I think he pretty clearly crossed several lines

Not trying to be a wet blanket on the conversation and obviously most of the late night hosts have had shitty moments. I just think he’s gone way too far to be considered someone absolved of criticism or whatever

I always forget how much I like Graham Norton until I see a clip pop up. He seems endlessly charming. I also really enjoyed Busy Phillips’ show while it was on

He was definitely cruel to Nell Scovell

He also came from the tradition of Carson who hated women
