McGregor is an interesting example because he just happened to come back to Star Wars after getting through his divorce settlement. For years he had said he would not come back.

him and Pattinson are just able to do whatever they want, just a couple of hot weirdos vibing

and I think being typecast really counts on the person, in a non shady way Tom Holland is charming and fun but would probably never have Timmy's career and that's ok

The worst part about being a young actor from the Marvel films is that you are being almost entirely judged from a bad circumstance. You are acting against a green screen opposite characters who often are not there, in service of action set pieces that are the actual meat of the film. It would be better to be able to go into an audition rather than perhaps be unfairly maligned as an actor because of how you performed in that situation. It seemed that way with a lot of Star Wars prequel actors.

The whole green screen thing is obviously a big problem. But, the funny thing about the Star Wars prequel example is, even beyond green screen, George Lucas productions just aren’t conducive to “good acting,” lol.

there's a difference between twilight/harry potter and the MCU/SW, as well. they're big movies but they aren't "suck the lifeforce out of the film industry" big.

I always think about how weird it must be to make a movie and then a decade later it's like hey we need you again, I don't blame Gwyneth for having no fucking clue what movie she was doing

The biggest shock to me was when Tilda Swinton showed up in the second Thanos movie. The last person I expected to see.

On one hand, I don’t blame for not knowing who’s in what Marvel movies.

On the other hand, I feel like the rough racial politics around Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One (and her “feminism” defense) had a lot of online discourse at the time.

What does that have to do with it?

  15. Chris Pratt is weird because he's totally different on Parks than what he's typecast as now

I hope Tatiana Maslany and Florence Pugh blow up after being in the MCU, I feel like Tatiana especially should've been getting more roles after Orphan Black than she did.

I feel like Florence Pugh was doing well before being in a marvel movie and will continue to do well. Tatiana Maslany should have blown up forever ago, she’s great.

  17. Hailee Steinfeld as well I'm pretty sure will continue to do well. I'm excited to see more of Xochitl Gomez and Iman Vellani, I think they have promising careers ahead of them. Of course, I thought the same of Daisy Ridley and she seems to have fizzled out, sadly

I don't see Tom Holland as having the range to go the same trajectory as Radcliffe and Pattinson but I'm open to being proven wrong.

  18. I know I'm the last person to watch the show, but I Just finished S1 of The Wire. Can't remember why I didn't stick with it when I first tried, but I'm pretty sure I was in college and didn't have the patience for it at the time. I've fully settled into it now. Good stuff.

The Wire is easily one of the top 5 shows of all time. A lot of people think season 2 is the worst but it’s one of my favorites.

Don't worry, I started the show twice in college, only to finally pay attention during my third try haha

yeah 100% it’s still good but a big step down. Now I want to rewatch the wire.

Another part of the argument you guys are talking about that sucks is that even when the actors do manage to escape the machine (even temporarily) and do more understated or serious work it still just gets covered like "Spider-Man/Hulk/Captain America are doing a serious movie!" by both media and the fans. It's like they're not even actors anymore, just mascots

Anyone who thinks the second season of the Wire is the worst one either hasn't finished the show or has some weird hangup about the working class angle. Famously, BET cut most of the dock stuff in their airing of the show.
