I wonder of consumerism and children's films go hand in hand in other countries like they do in the US.

It's pretty interesting to think that when The Force Awakens came out there was a huge, and very vocal, push for the toys beyond anything I had seen before with a blockbuster. Obviously tentpole movies and merchandise aren't uncommon, but it was almost an event in and of itself (didn't they call it Star Wars Day or something?). I enjoy Star Wars enough and it was a big part of my childhood and I love the ships/costumes so, I'm totally okay with it, and I definitely own Star Wars toys, but there was no being coy about the fact that the toys were one of the factors of the film being made.

 

Also, I wouldn't mind having a really cool Iron Giant toy tho

People did not think the world was flat 500 years ago.

 

People still think the earth is flat lol, but I get what you mean. That scene is most likely referring to Magellan's circumnavigation of the world, which I think was around 500 years ago.

 

It is just a historical misconception that bugs me. The ancient Greeks knew it was round, as did anyone involved in navigation in that time period.

 

I'm rewatching Rain Man for the first time in years and realizing that Cruise actually gives the better performance. It's blowing my mind.

 

He's a very good actor

Just watched Anomalisa. Wow.

 

Saw a print of The Straight Story (first time for me) last night and it was one of the best theater experiences I've ever had. What a work.

 

Shit. I bought this on blu-ray and never watched it. I need to get on that.

 

Finally caught up on all my shows that I tried to watch weekly (I think if I counted all of them it would just make me sad), with Orphan Black the only one still ongoing now that the Doctor Who season has ended. I feel like I took on too many shows to keep up with in Fall 2015 but then just piled on even more in 2016. I think I should prioritize only a few shows to watch weekly and watch the rest when the entire seasons is up on Netflix or something, if I decide to continue with them at all. Actually thinking of dropping at least Blindspot, Quantico and Timeless, at least for the time being. Maybe even put Jane the Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend on hold, since I seem to enjoy those more when I marathon them. Definitely putting The Walking Dead on hold, since I seem to get bored of it and binge on its (mid-)season finales anyway. I totally forgot to keep up with Better Call Saul, which might actually be a good thing because I think the entire second season has been on Netflix for a while now. But holy shit there are way too many Netflix Originals to catch up on.

I just now realized that Pretty In Pink and Some Kind Of Wonderful are basically the exact same movie just gender swapped!

 

People are clowning the Jumanji remake trailer (which I haven't seen), but if you think I'm not going to watch a movie with The Rock, Kevin Hart and Jack Black I don't we can be friends

 

..you may change your mind after seeing the trailer. I'm all for dumb movie fun, but this just looks painfully awful.
