I do remember that getting a ton of play on cable back in college. It’s a forgettable movie, but people liked it for a moment in time I guess.

Haven’t actually seen a lot of Cruise, but I love Edge Of Tomorrow, but from my understanding he’s kind of playing against his usual type right?

Admittedly, I’m a sucker for Verhoeven, but it’s a damn near perfect movie. It was great to see on the big screen.

I didn't have my usual hard drive with me for exams so I have been showing the kids Good Burger. How did they get away with the mental asylum scenes, even back then? Yeah it is a kids' movie, but it is pretty offensive.

yeah, there's a lot of "psychiatric ward as comeuppance" in children's entertainment. it's weird and it's fucked up

this and the James Gray clip I saw circulating are well articulated assessments of the inhospitable environment for art the current movie landscape is

The James Gray clip in particular lines up with how I've been thinking about this. As everything moves to streaming, you'd think studios would try to invest in higher quality content that would have a life well beyond its first week of release. Instead we're getting a slew of forgettable, seemingly thrown together (yet somehow still very expensive) films from the largest companies.
