What's up with this trend of streaming shows getting a physical release, but it's only DVD? What on earth is the point of having any physical release now at all if it's not at least up to basic HD standard? Am I just that out of touch?

 

I can answer this, because this is actually my job haha. The quick answer is that, shockingly, NO ONE buys tv shows on Blu-ray, but tv on DVD still sells. It's a mix of price reasons and general age of customers that are buying physically instead of streaming.

 

any streaming show can be taken off the service at a moment's notice if they feel like it so physical versions actually makes sense

 

I would imagine that movies on Blu-ray sell a lot better because the price gap between movies on DVD and Blu-ray is probably a lot less than the price gap between TV shows on DVD and Blu-ray.

Well there ya go. Pretty fascinating if true. I'd imagine the popularity of the show is a factor too maybe. If only multiple formats could be as feasible an option instead of just DVD, dang. Meanwhile vinyl is making a huge comeback over CDs despite being a much more expensive format. ^_^ Interesting stuff!

 

Maybe I'm just really lazy, but do you people like having to get up and put in a disc? I'd rather just click a couple of icons.
