That’s part of why I’m not sympathetic to the “the MCU gives actors freedom to do smaller/more interesting stuff” argument. I know it’s the nature of the landscape now and even if it’s not Marvel, every actor is going to be a superhero or in some big multi-film IP franchise anyway (which is a ball that got rolling long before the MCU existed), but from taking up screens in theaters to taking up the time of actors and directors, cinema is struggling against Disney.

 

Superhero movies don't give actors freedom to do other roles. Superhero movies force actors to do a few of them to be able to do other roles and pay the bills. It is not benevolence on Disney's part.

Don't a lot of the superheroes end up making cameos or bit parts in each others' movies? I don't know how the contracts are drawn up, but you can be put in a position with very little time to commit to anything else. When The Lobster is done filming, you are free to go.

 

Was just talking the other day about how much I respect that outside of the MCU she really sticks to smaller budget indie stuff. She seems to really love the craft
