Very happy to see a titan like Welles hates Vertigo too.

Also, how many screens are each playing on? They literally had the Dr. Strange movie starting every ten minutes in the Times Square theater.

I remember James Gray saying he couldn't even afford a house. Independent filmmakers operate on such small margins.

Just simply make a marvel movie. Problem solved.

Just imagining those MCU fans who say they want Disney to make arthouse movies that aren’t about superheroes but are still set in the MCU sitting through a Kelly Reichardt film

It's the same with music so hard for independent artists to get insurance if only they all could have medicare

Ultimately that is why I don't hold it against a director or writer or actor to take some of those positions. Alfonso Cuaron doing the Harry Potter movie is an example of that. I was surprised to find out Michelle Williams was in the evil Spiderman movies.

What I worry about is someone getting comfortable making that kind of money and abandoning their past work. Mark Ruffalo used to be such a great screen presence but it seems like he hasn't done anything great in years.

Happy Hour is MUBI's movie today. It is Drive My Car director Ryusuke Hamaguchi's first film, and those in the know say it rivals his newer films. I actually had it on my list to watch back in 2016 but never got to it for some reason. It is just over five hours long, so prep for that part.

I don't know if it's still on there but I watched it on Kanopy a few months ago while I had covid. It was broken into 3 regular movie sized chunks so I took breaks in between and that made it a lot more manageable. Overall was totally worth the length

The box office numbers are just astounding. Yesterday Dr. Strange made more than twenty times what the second place film made.
