The complaint isn't even true in the first place. I was 14 in 2002 and I wasn't thinking about 9/11 every day.

I'm not sure if I'm doing this correctly. I've never posted on a forum before. My friend and I are trying to figure out the name of a movie from, I believe, the 70's. It was one of the worst movies ever made. I don't believe there was nudity but it was extremely raunchy. The main character was based on having an enormous penis. It may have been foreign and dubbed. Like I said, super cheesy but both my friend and I remember seeing it on late night TV when we were young.

The sole example he cites as an awkward moment with the context of 9/11 is that the mom, instead of simply being confronted by the school security guard for sneaking around the school, would have actually been tackled by the police and hauled in

Agreed. No, this is a horrible attempt at a raunchy comedy but so over the top..

For those of you with a life, this stems from the "is David Lynch a conservative/is David Eggers alt-right?" discourse.

    Nolan definitely leans right

I would agree with Nolan because of the politics in the Batman movies, but a lot of them are more complicated than that. People think Clint Eastwood is some arch-conservative because of the RNC speech, but in his films there is much more of a pacifist tone than people realize.
A lot of directors probably have random political views that don't fit neatly into an ideological box. They aren't all going to adhere to a coherent platform

Didn’t he direct a movie written by the guy who wrote the “Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever“ speech?

Oh he wrote the book Josey Wales was adapted from, under a pen name. Clint Eastwood didn’t know that, according to the article I read, but while Eastwood is obviously publicly conservative I think what @Morrissey is saying is that in the art itself, the politics won’t always neatly align with our perceptions of the authors, which I agree with. Massive assholes have made incredibly empathetic art and people with politics I either don’t know, care about, or agree with have made art that I’ve found powerful.

I’m confused about what aspect of Lynch/his movies are supposed to be conservative

I think the idea is that it's because he depicts 50s Americana, but by that logic I think John Waters would also be Conservative haha

It comes from a misreading of the America that Lynch depicts. It is conservative if you think he wants to go back to the world of Blue Velvet or Twin Peaks but the point is showing all the ugliness underneath.

right it's misinterpreting the characters and world of his movies as his own viewpoint which is stupid for the vast majority of directors
