There's been three mainline games and I think a few spin offs.

I don't believe this is the way people view it though. Sure, it's less than the cost of a movie ticket, but it's every month. Pre-pandemic, the average American wasn't going to the theater every month (I believe the average was about 4 times per year). So they're not making that comparison when they consider a new streaming service. It seams like people are still getting used to this new era of every company having their own platform. Just a few years ago it was basically just Netflix and Hulu. People don't want to add yet another streaming service just for one show, especially if they think they're just going to cancel after they've watched it.

It's every month if you choose it to be. Something as popular as Halo is basically forgotten because it enters their mental queue and they never get to it

All those shows just treat everything like ip so they just look like expensive garbage

Sure, but the idea forgetting to cancel a subscription service you only wanted to use once is a real thing that gives people enough anxiety to make them think twice about signing up for another thing. It's one reason why login sharing is so pervasive. No one wants to go through even the most minor of hassles if they don't have to.

Admittedly, I'm not and never have been a big gamer, but I would also argue that Halo hasn't really been that popular in last last decade compared to the early 00's.

I don’t know if it’s so much the potential cost of a new subscription service that turns people off as it is the feeling of being overwhelmed by the options. Why pay for a whole new service if you’re perfectly content (if not already slightly overwhelmed) with the probably 2-5 sites you’re already using and therefore unlikely to ever actually put a new one to good use? It just gets redundant after a point.

The chronological version is actually how I first saw the films. It is the wrong way to watch them; young Vito scenes lack much of the emotional weight without having spent a film with Brando.

with commercials the standard is 22 minutes or 44 minutes of actual programming so yeah not including ads

It is a double-edged sword. It takes a lot of focus and discipline to hit those 22 and 44 minute marks, but it can lead to rushing or slowing down a natural pace. It is like a college kid trying to hit an exact word count sometimes. It can also make it obvious when what feels like the middle of an episode's storyline is really close to a resolution because there are only a few minutes left.

I think shows should do whatever feels natural for that episode. 25, 35, 45 whatever feels best for that episode. They shouldn’t shoe horn something to fit a certain amount of time.

I recently watched something on... Netflix where the first two episodes were like, an hour plus, and then later episodes were only about 30 minutes, and in each case it totally worked

Shows should drastically alternative episode lengths. 15min, an hour, 90min. Mix things up. Prove that you’ve mastered the entire medium of television

  23. When I see that a series has hour long episodes, or that a movie is over 2 hours, I am almost always moving on to something different that’s shorter.

If it’s hour long episodes AND a drama, fuhgetaboutit!

I love watching 11 minute animated shows like the stuff on Cartoon Network. That’s way more my speed. :)

I just always would rather be making music in my bedroom so the shorter and more entertaining a show or movie is, the better chance I’ll stay on the couch.
