I don't really remember Charlie's Angels, but I think the reason 21 Jump Street worked, was because it brought something new/interesting to the table. It wasn't just pandering to fans of the old franchise, it really kinda targeted a different demographic than the TV show's fans. I feel like most reboots and sequels don't work (for me at least) because they're just more of the same.

  2. I saw Dead Poets Society, Pleasantville, Whale Rider, The Truman Show, K-Pax, As Good as it Gets, and a few episodes of The West Wing in high school. A few of those movies to this day are still in my top 10.

The reboot/sequel trend is only completely bad if you think all blockbusters are inherently not worth seeing. I understand the whole argument about big movies forcing smaller movies onto less and less screens, but at least I'm able to enjoy both.

Those classifications need to end. With 60 inch 4K televisions, people need to get past the theater fetish. It is simply getting too hard to get screen time with the blockbusters around.

I agree that being shown in a theater shouldn't be a qualifier, but at least maybe it means that some of the Netflix originals will start being shown in theaters more often and possibly reach a different/larger audience...

Apparently the new Jon Benet doc on Netflix is playing at some theaters

The cost of Netflix for a month is less than the cost of a theater for 2 hours. It costs almost as much to see it once as it does to buy it. I love the experience but I also love film and I don't have the money to spend $100+ at a theater every month.

Meh. I have a membership to my one local cinema which makes each ticket under $10. It helps that I have zero interest in most new releases and mostly see rep screenings of films shown on 35 or 70mm. It's more about the entire experience in those intances where I find it worth the price.

If I see new releases I generally go on Tuesday so I can see the film for $5-7. Plus the one big chain has a points system that gives you a free film for about every 9-10 films you see.

For recent, bigger arthouse films (see: Cannes entries) they've got a decent selection. But their choice of pre 80s films is embarrassing.

Fandor is the best streaming service tbh. Film Struck is probably great but I can't access it in Canada yet.

I just always go to theater on $5 nights which they have twice a week. Great deal.

Saw 'The Book of Mormon' for the first time last night. All the shows are sold out but got lucky and won the limited lottery tickets before the show.. Really, really enjoyed it. Lots of fun.

I'd really like to see Book of Mormon, but whenever they do a run here it's always sold out/unaffordable.

Wish they'd release a bluray or something
