it's definitely ok for art to not hold up, that's not what i'm saying, i'm saying i don't typically want to revisit old art that no longer holds up lol

I haven’t seen it and try not to judge movies until I see them but I would absolutely eat a gummy and strap in for the ride

It depends if you are referring to something holding up in regards to passage of time or your own personal growing up. I loved the Power Rangers as a kid, but when they put the original show on Netflix I watched an episode and saw how awful it was. It was always awful, but when I was 6 I did not know any better. It is a lot different than if something has dated references and plotlines; the Twitter thread tried to rope in The Sopranos as an example of something that is great despite aging, but it isn't something people would say doesn't hold up in the first place.

Has any TV show weathered the central character leaving and kept its quality or even improved? You won't find a lot of people who argue that late Happy Days, The Office, or That 70's Show were at their best in the end. The only one I can think of is NYPD Blue.

TWD really flourished when Rick decided to go on a trip and leave his kid behind. :upside:

It’s a cheat answer because it was part of the plan (and it was more of an ensemble cast), but Sean Bean and Game of Thrones was the only thing that came to mind.

Taylor is the main character, but you think season four and five are as good or better than seasons one and three?

AMC bought up most of the local theaters. The one independent one left takes chances once in a while on different ideas. They were doing occasional classic films before everyone else started with the pandemic, they tried doing Monday Night Football for a while, and now they do Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. tournaments. Their popcorn is never hot enough, though.

I was binge watching Friday Night Lights a couple years ago and it really really hits a slog in the second to last season with the new characters. Made it maybe a third way into that season and never finished

People talk about The Office dipping in quality when Michael left but it really started dipping in quality when Andy came in.

Maybe I believe you with five, but what I saw of four was bad. Someday I'll finish it off, but the rough patch is really rough

Truly one of the worst characters I've ever had the displeasure of watching.

Don’t wanna open this can of worms but I don’t feel any real dip until season 5, maybe a little in season 4 but nothing major

I'll see you your can of worms and raise you a bucket of worms - the show never dipped in quality
