It is important to remember there are a lot of unofficial rules to parental rating but very little is set in stone and similar scenes and moments can lead to different ratings for seemingly random reasons.

 

How many films are rated NC-17 for language? Clerks was originally. I can’t think of many others, especially in the 90s

I just watched Adverse (2021) and it's like The Room level bad. There's a somewhat coherent storyline, and a little action towards the end, but everything else was godawful. I laughed out loud multiple times, especially at the ending. Could be fun in the right mindset if you're into that kind of stuff. Mickey Rourke and Lou Diamond Phillips are in it. Samm Levine has a good 3 minute scene.
