I will never watch Come and See. Just can’t do it. Schindler’s list was too rough for me, so...yeah.

  6. I don't think I've seen enough movies from before I was born to be able to do that.

  7. Although I am a little curious as to whether my list would have changed at all now that I've realized my gender identity.

It’s hard for me to tell if Miyazaki is just an artistic curmudgeon about the industry or whatever, or if he’s actually a genuinely unpleasant person generally.

Does that come off as curmudgeonly? It kinda seems like he was accosted by the person that did that interview while he was trying to clean up trash.

I didn’t look at the article itself so I didn’t realize that the interviewer literally just walked up to him on the street in that way, yeah that’s really shitty.

Regardless, I’ve definitely seen/read other things where he comes off as being annoyed and looking down on others in the industry. And I have no idea whether that’s just him being jaded towards the industry in particular or what. There are definitely plenty stories of Studio Ghibli being a shitty workplace

  13. is it streaming anywhere?

Not that I'm aware of, I was gonna just rent it when I get the chance.

Maybe someone else in this thread knows?

I rented it. It’s not streaming as far as I know. It’s worth the $4-5

Personally I think if Jaws is about a shark the shark should be in every scene

This is why awards shows are like Icarus flying too close to the Sun. His opinions about the film are dumb, but when he states stuff like the awards reputation of the distributor, you start to sound like a publicist rather than anything a normal person should sound like.

The first tweet does give off the same kind of tone as when people excuse shitty things the Dems do based on some obscure procedural parliamentarian rule, as if any regular people does or should ever give a shit about them

They are mostly the same people. One of the worst fanatical Hillary Clinton Democrats on Twitter is a prominent Oscar blogger.

The whole fucking point of the movie is how these people are able to maintain their power like this because of the thinnest veneer of plausible deniability. Having that scene would negate all the power the film has.

Lucky enough to catch this on film at the Ann Arbor film festival a few years ago, can’t recommend Jem Cohen enough. Not even 40 minutes, streaming free on Vimeo!
