The worst Soderbergh movies I've seen might not "work", but they're still watchable and have enough stylistic choices that I'm actively engaged watching them.

 

right. at his worst (idk, unsane?) he’s still extremely watchable

 

Like I watched the Underneath recently and it's widely regarded as one of his worst (even by Soderbergh himself) but some of the technical choices were extremely engaging, and this sequence of shots stopped me in my tracks when I was watching it (off-kilter quality due to me taking pictures of my TV with my phone)

 

I love Bennett Miller's Moneyball (and just watched his debut, The Cruise, a documentary on Mubi that's worth a watch), but would die to see Soderbergh's version. High Flying Bird probably has shades of what he would have done.

 

i like high flying bird a lot and moneyball a ton but it’s hard to not see soderbergh’s version of moneyball as the biggest what if of the decade

 

Moneyball is a perfect 10/10.

 

Yeah Moneyball is one of the best films of the decade, hard to see how much Soderbergh would improve it tbh.

 

I’d totally like to see what his version would look like, just not at the expense of the real version.

Yeah it's not about replacing Miller's, which is great, but Soderbergh's would be very different and I'd love to have seen that vision executed.

 

The worst Soderbergh is The Good German by quite a bit.

 

The Good German is so boring.

 

I have not seen The Good German. The worst of his that I've seen is Unsane. It's not a good film, but I still found parts of it to be interesting.

 

Yeah The Good German is an experiment that I’m not sure lands, probably my least favorite of what I’ve seen but I still found it interesting and enjoyed attempting to engage with it. Interestingly he’s said it’s one where basically exactly what he wanted ended up onscreen.

 

I did all of Soderbergh last year, it is awful.

Absolutely worse.

 

The Informant! is such an underrated gem. It is one of the best portrayals of a dumb guy being way in over his head.

 

Great movie
